10 Amazing Walt Disney World Ride Tricks

Disney World Ride

Regardless of the reason that you go to Disney, at some point during your trip, you’ll find yourself going on a ride. Here are 10 amazing tips and tricks to help you squeeze every drop of magic out of your experience.

10 – FastPass the Most Popular Rides – it goes without saying that getting a FastPass for the most popular or your favorite ride is essential. Be aware that with guests being able to make FastPass reservations 60 days prior to their trip, that some experiences may be booked if you don’t make a selection early enough. This consistently happens with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Princess Fairytale Hall at the Magic Kingdom, so as soon as you know you’re going and have your scheduled locked, be sure to log onto My Disney Experience and pick your rides!

9 – Consider the Single Rider Line – not every attraction at Walt Disney World offers this, but some of the more popular rides do and it is worth considering. The single rider line exists so that every empty spot gets filled. This can sometimes be a good way to get on a ride with a very short wait. The singe rider line is utilized at Expedition Everest, Rock and Roller Coaster, and Test Track.

8 – Shorter Lines During Parades/Fireworks – as guests line Main Street, U.S.A. or huddle around World Showcase Lagoon for fireworks or a parade, the lines for most attractions diminish greatly. You may still have to wait in a short line, but it could be a good way to sneak on a few rides without having to use a FastPass or wait in a very long line. For example, during a recent visit, wait times for Peter Pan’s Flight were around 90 minutes, but dropped to about 40 during the parade.

7 – Take Advantage of Rope Drop – getting to the park near the crack of dawn may not feel like the best way spend your vacation, but it will help you and your family enjoy a few more rides with lower crowds. It can take a few hours before the huge crowds show up and really clog the lines. Again, on a recent trip to Animal Kingdom, my friend and I were able to do every ride and be leaving the park in the span of 3.5 hours! You may not have the same experience depending on the time of year you go, but it can certainly help!

6 – Consider Where You Sit – this won’t get you on a ride faster, but sitting in the front versus the back can certainly impact your experience. My family always loves sitting in the back of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – we feel you go just a little faster back there and you don’t have the front of the train obstructing your view. On the flip side, we love the front of Expedition Everest so we can enjoy the spectacular view when we are at the top!

5 – Use Extra Magic Hours to Your Advantage – By visiting an attraction during Extra Magic Hours, you are assuring a somewhat smaller line. We will usually save Soarin’ for Extra Magic Hours at Epcot on Friday nights and can almost always get on with only a 20 minute wait!

4 – Don’t Waste a FastPass – if you are approaching an attraction that you have a FastPass for and discover that it has a very small wait, don’t use your FastPass for it. Step out of line and swap it for something else that has a longer wait by using the My Disney Experience app! All the information that you need to be able to make your decision is at your fingertips with this free app from Disney! Check out How To Reserve FastPasses For Your Trip In 7 Easy Steps.

3 – Know How the Crowd Moves – At Disney, crowd movements can be predicted. For example, crowds tend to head to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom first. So instead, try beginning your Magic Kingdom visit at Adventureland and Frontierland first. You can hit the headliner attractions there quickly before the crowd catches up!

2 – Extra FastPass – after using your allotment of three FastPasses, make sure you stop by a FastPass+ kiosk and see if there are any more exeriences available for the day. They will tend to be for the smaller, less popular attractions, but if it means one less line to wait in for the day, why not get and use one?

1 – Enjoy the Queue – at times this cannot be avoided. But, in recent years, Disney has gone to great lengths to make waiting in line a little more enjoyable with interactive queues – Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan, and Haunted Mansion. There are things to see at the Great Movie Ride and Expedition Everest. Take some time and enjoy the details in these queues and see what fun things you might be able to find! Not everyone goes to Disney for the rides, but getting in line at an attraction is unavoidable. Use these tricks to try and minimize the amount of time that you’ll have to wait! What is your favorite ride trick?
