10 Innovative Ways to Save Money for a Disney Vacation

Like anything else in life, a trip to Disney World costs money. It would be nice if it were free, but imagine the lines if it were! There is a sacrifice for anything that costs money. We trade our time for the wages we receive from working and we make choices all the time about what to do with that money. With limited amounts of money we have to choose one priority over the other. With that in mind, let’s see what we could do to help save for a Disney vacation. These individual trade offs might not be worth enough to get the vacation, but a few combinations could get you there.

10. Get rid of the clutter. Have a big neighborhood-wide yard sale and get rid of things you don’t need and make some money in the process. You could also place a big-ticket item that you no longer use on Craigslist to earn some extra bucks.

9. Give up two hours sleep each week to wake early for some online freelance work. You could do some writing, design work, or be a virtual assistant. You won’t get rich quick but you can earn enough to get to Disney.

8. If you are not using that gym membership, then drop it. $40-$50 a month can be put toward a Disney vacation. Instead, play outside with the kids or go for a walk/jog in your neighborhood. A set of pushups and sit ups and you’ll get plenty of exercise.

7. Sacrifice a half-day each week to mow some lawns to save up for your trip. You can make about $40 an hour doing lawn work. Probably could use the exercise if you have dropped that gym membership!

6. Do you really need that second car? Sell it and make do with one. You will save on gas, insurance, and upkeep as well.

4. Dining out is one of the biggest ways to overspend nowadays. It is so easy and restaurants are everywhere. Trade this convenience for the savings you will get. You would be surprised at how fast it adds up.

3. Do you really need that lawn service each week? Wouldn’t your grandfather be ashamed of you not taking care of your own grass? Trade the easy life of letting someone else mow your grass for the money saved to put toward a Disney adventure.

2. Trade cable TV for a vacation to Disney. Let’s face it, there is nothing on TV anymore. Reality shows, comedies that are unfunny, and ridiculous concepts for dramas fill the airwaves. This is an easy trade off.

1. Skip going out to the movies for a few months. With the price of movie tickets, popcorn, $4 drinks, with multiple moviegoers in your family, wait to see that newest Disney flick when it gets to the bargain theater in your neighborhood. Or even better, buy the DVD or download it on itunes and watch it in the comfort of your living room.
