10 Reasons Why Disney World is my Favorite Vacation Destination

There’s no doubt that Walt Disney World is a favorite vacation destination for thousands of people who show their loyalty by coming back year after year. With so much to see and do, it’s not hard to imagine why people love it so much. Here are 10 reasons why Disney World is my destination of choice!

10. All-Inclusive Convenience

One of the reasons that all-inclusive resort destinations are so popular is that you don’t have to leave. You get to your happy place and stay there for the duration of your trip. All of the food and activity you could want are located on-site, and at no additional cost. Disney is a lot like this. There are exceptions, of course. If you are staying off-site, then this does not fully apply. Also, if you aren’t using the Disney Dining Plan, then your food and drink isn’t exactly included. However, the new ability to make purchases using your Magic Band gives you the flexibility of moving around the property cash-free, which is a major appeal of all-inclusive destinations. When you’re in Disney World, you’re in Disney World. There’s really no need to leave the property, drive yourself anywhere, or wonder where you should get your next meal. It’s all at your fingertips, and I love traveling like that.

9. Plentiful Transportation

I’m a planner, and that applies to vacation as well. I love an itinerary. What I don’t really love is figuring out how to get from point A to point B. Figuring out details like time between destinations, where to park (and how much it costs), etc. are not my favorites. For that reason, I love having access to Disney’s convenient transportation. Knowing that I don’t have to figure out how to get around is real a stress-saver. Once in awhile I experience a “hiccup” involving a Disney bus, but I still love the convenience. I’ll take those hiccups over not having bus transportation at all. I particularly love all of the other ways of getting around property- boats, monorail, and walking! If you can choose one of them over taking a bus, I would encourage it!

8. Delicious Food

Disney has so much food, and great variety. For people with sophisticated tastes, there are plenty of signature restaurants to enjoy. If you like ethnic cuisine, the World Showcase presents many delectable options. Perhaps you prefer eating mostly counter service meals, like burgers, salads, and hot dogs. Maybe themed or character dining is your top vacation priority. Or, if you’re like me, you can sample a little of each of these types, dining at a fine restaurant one day and with Mickey Mouse the next. Regardless of your dining style, you’ll find plenty of choices- all of them delicious.

7. Amazing Rides and Attractions

Whether you love thrill rides, or prefer the nostalgia of Disney classics, you won’t be disappointed. To the delight of thrill seekers, Disney has a few really great rides. Expedition Everest is a one-of-a-kind coaster that’s not only fast, it even goes backwards. Rockin’ Rollercoaster is exceptionally fast, taking off and reaching 60 mph almost instantly and then speeding through pitch-darkness. The Tower of Terror is another thrilling favorite that drops you from great heights repeatedly. If you’re like me, maybe you prefer classic attractions. I love the corny jokes on the Jungle Cruise, the scenes in Pirates of the Caribbean, and the whimsy of It’s a Small World. And who doesn’t love sailing over London on Peter Pan’s Flight? If you like modern favorites, there are plenty of those, too. Some notable examples: The Seven Dwarves Mine Train, Soarin’, and Toy Story Midway Mania.

6. Riveting Entertainment

There are so many entertainment options in Walt Disney World included in your park admission. Epcot’s World Showcase boasts a culturally relevant act in each country. Hollywood Studious has two stunt shows and a nighttime spectacular, among others. There are several parades throughout the parks as well as nighttime displays, including fireworks. If you want to sit down and see a show, you can do that, too.

5. Courteous Cast Members

Let’s face it; the people we come in contact with in our everyday lives are not always as magical as their Disney counterparts. In normal society, a waiter is a waiter and a sales clerk is a clerk. But in Disney, these individuals are cast members. They’re part of a show, put on just for you and me to ensure that we enjoy every detail of our Disney experience to the fullest. I love being greeted with a smile and friendly service in Disney!

4. Magical Details

No expense was spared in designing each and every attraction, restaurant, and show in Walt Disney World. Physical and architectural details are beyond impressive, from the forced-perspective of Main Street U.S.A. to the way that different lands transition to one another in the Magic Kingdom. The music that plays at just the right time, or the smells that waft out of a bakery… these are not mistakes, and they add to the sense that you are really in a magical world.

3. Charismatic Characters

Even as an adult traveling without children, seeing and interacting with characters is one of my favorite parts of a Disney vacation. I am not ashamed to admit that I even collect their autographs and would rather meet characters than dine somewhere fancy. Seeing favorite characters in the “flesh” really makes for a magical experience.

2. Blissful Escape from the Real World

Walt Disney’s biggest disappointment with Disneyland was that it wasn’t isolated enough. Walt did not like that bright lights and highway signs could be seen from his park. He also didn’t like that people passed pawn shops and motels on their way into his park. This is why Walt resolved to build his next park, Walt Disney World, on a bigger, more isolated location. Flying over central Florida in a helicopter, Walt was able to see the area that would become Walt Disney World and knew that his second project had “the gift of space.” Walt’s vision was a success. I love that when I vacation in Disney World, I am blissfully unaware of the world around me. I’m not suggesting that life in the “real world” is a bad thing, nor would I encourage anyone to take their life and blessings for granted. But it sure is nice to truly escape the real world for a little while when you are on vacation.
