11 Things You Must Know About Epcot At Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney World Resort consists of four spectacular theme parks that are filled with attractions just waiting to for you to discover them. Each park tells several unique stories that all piece together the magic of Disney.

11. Opening

Epcot officially opened its gates on October 1st, 1989. E. Cardon Walker was quoted with saying, “To all who come to this place of joy, hope and friendship, welcome. Epcot Center is inspired by Walt Disney’s creative genius. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, the wonders of enterprise, and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all. May Epcot Center entertain, inform and inspire. And, above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man’s ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere.”

10. Walt’s Original Plan

Walt Disney himself originally intended Epcot to become a thriving community. After all, Epcot does stand for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. When Walt died, the company chose not to manage such a feat without him. In time, it became the theme park you know and love today.

9. Future World

The first section of Epcot consists of the latest innovations and attractions designed to take you into the future. Rides like Spaceship Earth teach you the origin of communications, reminding you to thank the Phoenicians for the alphabet. Test Track and Mission Space put the controls to innovation in your hands while Soarin takes you high above the skies.

8. World Showcase

The enormous expansion of countries makes up the World Showcase Lagoon. Here, guests can travel the world through culturally themed pavilions and educate themselves along the way. This series of architectural marvels consists of Mexico, China, Norway, Africa, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, and Canada. Each pavilion features its own entertainment, iconic structures, and a delicious assortment of food.

7. Illuminations

Presented by Siemens, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is an amazing fireworks spectacular over the World Showcase Lagoon. The entire circle of nations come together for a celebration of unity and discovery. Lasers will join the fireworks in an extraordinary show, that all begins at nine o’clock.

6. Spaceship Earth

Known by most guests as the giant golfball, there are 11,520 total isosceles triangles forming 3840 points on this enormous attraction. Inside is an entire omnimover attraction that allows you to travel back in time to the Stone Age, and discover the transformation of communication. You will even get to plan your own future at the end!

5. Mission: Space

Once the sight of the environment attraction, Horizons, Misson: Space is your one way ticket for a flight to Mars. This daring attraction offers two versions, one of which that spins while the other rocks back and forth. Either way, the teams of the ISTC are ready to see you planetside.

4. Frozen Ever After

In Epcot’s Norway pavilion, the mythical ride of Maelstrom has now been replaced by Frozen Ever After. This fjord drifting adventure will whisk guests back to the kingdom of Arendelle to join Anna, Elsa, and all of their friends.

3. The Flower and Garden Festival

From March 2nd to May 30th, outdoor kitchens will emerge around the park, offering seasonal foods for your enjoyment. Extravagant topiaries will be placed throughout all of Epcot, making for spectacular photo opportunities.

2. The Food and Wine Festival

From September 25th to November 16th , outdoor kitchens will dominate the World Showcase. Get ready to let your taste buds soar and hold onto your wallet, because you will be spending every bit of cash on these amazing selections.

1. Seabase Aquarium

Epcot’s Seabase Aquarium is the second largest in the world, boasting a tank of 5.7 gallons of saltwater through eight inch walls. Over 6,000 sea creatures call this aquarium home, including sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, and even dolphins.
