15 Things Not to Miss in Epcot’s Future World

Epcot's Future World
Epcot's Future World

Epcot is divided into two magnificently themed worlds. World Showcase puts a variety of world cultures on display. You can enjoy the food and entertainment that each country has to offer. Future World, as the name suggests, showcases the technologies and ideas that have advanced society to where we are today and holds a hopeful wish for various ways our society can advance in the years to come.

Each area has its own attractions, restaurants, and hidden gems for you to enjoy, and even items not on this list are worthy of checking out, but here is our list of things not to miss in Future World.

15 – Club Cool – this is a great hidden gem that everybody will enjoy! Club Cool is sponsored by Coca-Cola and features different sodas from around the world. You can sample as many flavors as you’d like, but be careful…some of the sodas being featured are not great tasting. It is always fun to see what selection each member of your group picks as the grossest!

14 – Journey into Imagination with Figament – this ride has its loyal supporters, as well as its critics, but regardless of where you fall, this is a classic attraction that is worth enjoying at least once. Located in the Imagination Pavilion, this track ride displays the power of imagination and dreams. The song is either lovable or grating (again, this depends on your view of the ride itself). It is a good ride to keep in mind because it rarely has a substantial line and you can usually walk right on!

13 – MouseGear – MouseGear is the largest gift shop in Epcot and has anything that you might be looking for. From books and videos, to a bevy of housewares (matching Mickey and Minnie salt and pepper shakers), to candy, and classic t-shirts and mouse ears, this is definitely worth a stop. If you are a resort guest, you can have your purchases shipped to your resort hotels so you don’t have to lug them around with you all day. Day guests – don’t fret! You can have your purchases sent to the front of the park for pick-up later in the day (you do have to plan being in the park for at least another 3 hours after your purchase for them to be able to accommodate your request).

12 – Fountainview – when Disney introduced Starbucks into the parks, it created controversy – some loved the ability to get their favorite drinks in the parks, while others thought that it distracted from the overall thematic experience. Love it or hate it, Fountainview is a great place to stop by to get a drink or a quick snack. When you leave, be sure to check out the Fountain of Nations – this is an oft-overlooked piece of Future World that features choreographed water fountains with an enjoyable soundtrack.

11 – Garden Grill – this restaurant is located in the Land Pavilion. Meals are offered family-style and features locally-sourced food (some of the food can be viewed during the Living with the Land ride). Garden Grill is a character dining experience, so you can expect to have Chip, Dale, Mickey, and Pluto stop by your table during your meal. The meal is extra enjoyable because the restaurant itself rotates, so be careful if you get up to go to the bathroom. Be sure to save room for dessert – every option there is delicious!

10 – Sunshine Seasons – this is a counter-service restaurant also located in the Land Pavilion. I stumbled across it one morning when I was at Epcot for rope drop and wanted to experience both Soarin’ and Test Track (stupid tiered FastPass rules!). Sunshine Seasons serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had breakfast and was truly surprised by the quality and variety of food they have to offer.

9 – The Sea with Nemo and Friends – this ride is located in the Seas area. Designed using the same technology as Haunted Mansion and Under the Sea at Magic Kingdom, you can easily board this ride with minimal wait times. Kids will love this ride and parents will definitely enjoy the time off their feet and out of the sun!

8 – Sum of All Thrills – this simulator ride is located in Innoventions. You get to act as your own roller coaster engineer and design your own thrill ride….and then you get to test it out! Families usually quickly walk by Innoventions, so be sure to check this one out – there are a bunch of other games and attractions to be enjoyed once you’re done!

7 – Living with the Land – this boat ride offers a first-hand look at a variety of different agricultural approaches in the modern world. It also showcases the evolution of agriculture. While adults may find this to be interesting, the little ones may find it to be a little boring. One of my favorite things to do on this ride is to look for Hidden Mickeys – with the growing nature of the ride, Hidden Mickeys may be “sprouting up” some time soon!

6 – Mission: Space – this thrill ride allows you to become an astronaut for a mission to the red planet. Mission: Space is a wonderful attraction because it allows you to pick your thrill level. It offers a mild version of the ride without any centrifugal spinning and a more-intense version. Both are very enjoyable and both offer an amazing ride experience.

5 – Soarin’ – this ride was imported from Disney’s California Adventure in 2005. It offers you an aerial view of majestic sites in California – wine country, the Pacific coast, and Disneyland. The ride is truly innovative incorporating the use of sweet smells to enhance the ride experience. Soarin’ consistently has the biggest wait times in Epcot, so be sure to head there first thing or use one of your FastPasses for it. Rumors are circulating that Disney has recently shot new scenes to update the ride using shots from Florida and that they may add another theatre to help ease ride wait times.

4 – Test Track – ever wonder what it would be like to design your own car? This ride offers you the ability to do just that and to test our your creation in a variety of tests. Test Track always creates a little friendly competition for members of your group to see who can build the best all-around car. Test Track also holds the distinction of being the fastest ride at Disney with a top speed of 65 miles per hour!

3 – Monorail – while not technically located inside of Future World, the Monorail is classic Disney. One of my favorite views in all of the parks is during the loop through the trains take through Epcot before you get off. You get to see all that Future World has to offer, as well as a glimpse across the World Showcase Lagoon.

2 – Coral Reef Restaurant – this restaurant offers amazing views of the aquarium at the Seas. Be sure to request a table by the tank so you can see all of the marine life swimming by. Reservations can be tricky to get, so make sure you make your advance dining reservations as soon as possible!

1 – Spaceship Earth – the centerpiece of Epcot features this classic Disney attraction. Spaceship Earth takes you on a journey of the history of communication. The ride is a constant on/off ride, so the ride moves guests constantly and keeps lines to a minimum. This is a great first stop in the morning or a wonderful capstone to your day at Epcot. The ride concludes with a future of your creation, so be sure to pay attention to your on-board touchscreens towards the end of the ride!

Future World’s conceit was to encourage innovation in a realms of human endeavor. Some argue that Epcot has strayed away from that original mission, but the rides and attractions offer guests the ability to discover the history of the world we live in, as well as to dream about the future that we are able to create. Be sure to enjoy some of these on your next trip to Epcot!
