Top 7 Lies About Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios

Everyone has their own opinions about what restaurant is the best or what rides you should get FastPasses for. People also have their opinions about Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Some of these opinions have become widely accepted and some believe have become hardened fact. Despite this, Hollywood Studios remains a wonderful park with plenty to see, explore, and enjoy!

7 – They keep shutting down attractions. Is there even anything to do there? – Of course there is! Even though Hollywood Studios is going to be undergoing a huge facelift to make way for Star Wars Land, a Pixar Place expansion, and possibly even more, Hollywood Studios is still home to three of the most imaginative rides at Disney World. Rock and Roller Coaster is the only coaster at Disney World to feature inversions. Tower of Terror offers guests a completely new ride experience each and every time they ride it. And, finally, Toy Story Midway Mania consistently have wait times in the triple digits because it offers fun carnival-style games for everyone in the family!

6 – I’d rather eat at a well-known restaurant like Cinderella’s Royal Table. – Disney’s Hollywood Studios features some of the best themed restaurants in Disney World. Does your family want some classic American food? If so, head to either 50’s Prime Time Café or Sci-Fi Dine-In. Want some classic Italian fare? Head to the Streets of America and grab something at Mama Melrose’s Italian Ristorante. Mom and Dad want to share a romantic dinner with some fancier options – the Hollywood Brown Derby fits the bill.

5 – It’s a small park. I can do everything there in half a day. – Oh, really? Between the attractions (Tower of Terror, Star Tours, MuppetVision 3D, Great Movie Ride, Rock and Roller Coaster, and Toy Story Midway Mania), you still have a bevy of stage shows to see (Beauty and the Beast, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Disney Junior! Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, and Lights, Motor, Action). Between all of these things AND the fabulous dining options, your family can easily spend a full day and cap it off with Hollywood Studios’ premiere experience, Fantasmic!

4 – I want to see some fireworks, so I’ll spend my time at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. – Um…Hollywood Studios has fireworks! And they’re amazing! It is important to note that Hollywood Studios doesn’t always have fireworks, but when they do, they definitely impress. Currently, Hollywood Studios is the home of Frozen Summer Fun and that features a spectacular fireworks display each night. Hollywood Studios also plays host to Star Wars Weekends every year and they feature fireworks on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during that time. The fireworks are set to amazing music and appear much closer in the sky because of where the fireworks are shot off from!

3 – There is no place for me to relax and sit down – Nothing could be further from the truth! In addition to the stage shows, there are plenty of places where you can sit, relax, and re-charge. Want a cold drink? Check out the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge where you can grab some small plates and drinks. Or go to the Tune In Lounge at the 50’s Prime Time Café. Looking for something even quieter? Head to Mickey Avenue and check out One Man’s Dream. This walk through attraction features the history of Walt Disney, his studio, and the construction of his beloved theme parks. It also ends with a 15-minute movie about his life. It is a unique experience that is a must-do for any Disney fan!

2 – The people there are weird. – We all get a little weird on vacation, but I know what you mean. Hollywood Studios features two wandering acts in the park. The first, Citizens of Hollywood. These performers perform a multitude of comedy acts in and around Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. It is a wonderful distraction from running from ride to ride or shop to shop. If old-timey entertainment doesn’t do it for you, there is always Mulch, Sweat, and Shears. This cover band plays in the Streets of America area of the park and covers popular songs, as well as some of your Disney favorites. While the people may be off-putting at first, these entertainment options are not available in other parks!

1 – That big hat is SO distracting – it exists no more! The much maligned Sorcerer’s Hat has been removed, so you can see the original sight line from when the park first opened in 1989. With the expansion coming soon, that may change, so make sure to get there sometime soon! While walking down Hollywood Boulevard, be sure to check out the stores on both sides of the street. They are some of my favorite and features something from every Disney fan young and old!

Hollywood Studios gets a bad reputation because it has been constantly evolving from the original conception of the park when it was built. 25 years after its opening, it appears that it may have finally found its true identity as a place where the truly special places and moments from movies and television come to life! What is your favorite thing about Hollywood Studios?
