Walt Disney World is well known for being a paradise for all things princess. But did you know that Disney hosts a veritable treasure trove of pirate activities as well? Check out our list of 8 pirate activities guaranteed to have you shouting “Shiver me timbers!”

8. The Pirate’s League

The Pirate’s League offers landlubbers the chance to be transformed into authentic buccaneers! For the littlest pirates, they offer a Jake and the Never Land Pirates makeover, which includes a bandana with faux “Jake” hair, a sword, a coin necklace, and a Pirate’s League bag. For older pirates, the First Mate Package offers several different options for facial makeup, a temporary tattoo, eye patch, sword, and earring. Do you have a little girl in your party who wants to be a pirate, too? No problem! The Empress Package includes makeup, nail polish, and a face gem along with several other traditional pirate accessories. There’s even a Mermaid makeover! Prices range from $29.95 for the basic “Jake” package up to $74.95 for the Deluxe Mermaid Package.

7. Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial

This 25-minute outdoor show takes place multiple times a day near Pirates of the Caribbean in the Magic Kingdom. Several audience members (usually children) are chosen to participate in a sword fighting lesson. Following the lesson, all boys and girls in the audience are invited on stage to accept a membership scroll and take the pirate’s oath. These shows take place daily, but may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

6. A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas

This is an interactive game similar to Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure (in Epcot). Guests are given a magic “talisman” at The Crow’s Nest which leads them on five missions through Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. The game functions like a virtual scavenger hunt; each location gives a clue (animation on a TV screen) which leads to the next location. Each mission takes between 15 and 20 minutes to complete. This game can be played from park opening to park closing every day and is completely free.

5. Pirate Adventure Cruises

These two-hour kids-only cruises depart daily from four resort hotel locations in Walt Disney World. While onboard, young buccaneers hear a pirate adventure story, search for pieces of a treasure map, and eventually head home with their own bag of “treasure”. This excursion is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 12. The current cost is $37 per child and includes a snack. Call (407) WDW-PLAY for reservations.

4. Pirates of the Caribbean

This ride, located in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom, is one of the oldest in Walt Disney World and still extremely popular. It is a 9-minute voyage that will take you past the Pirate’s Grotto, a burning city being pillaged by buccaneers, and the famous dungeon scene. The attraction is a Disney icon and should not be missed, regardless of your level of pirate enthusiasm. But be warned; you’ll spend the rest of the day singing “Yo Ho, Yo Ho. A Pirate’s Life for Me!”.

3. The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow

Inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, this immersive walk-through attraction is a must-do for lovers of all things “pirate”. Encounters with sirens, the Krakken, and even Johnny Depp will entertain fans of the film series. This Hollywood Studios attraction dishes up some really amazing visual effects, but may be too scary for the youngest pirates in your party.

2. Disney Junior Play n’ Dine at Hollywood & Vine

Although this isn’t exclusively a “pirate” character meal (Sophia the First, Doc McStuffins and Handy Manny also join in the fun), pint-sized pirates will enjoy the opportunity to see Jake from Disney Junior’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates in person. This is a very popular character meal offered in Hollywood Studios. Characters are only on hand during the breakfast and lunch, so be certain to make your reservations accordingly.
