Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon – 12 Things You Can’t Miss At Disney Water Parks

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are both water parks located at Walt Disney World. The parks are located near Downtown Disney. Both of these water parks have great attractions and are a great way to beat the summer heat here in Florida. Disney water parks are not included with park hopper passes. 12. Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is located across the street from Downtown Disney. It is hidden off the main road. Once you turn into the park you will feel that you are in a secluded water park paradise. Typhoon lagoon has a very tropical feel with lots of great palm trees and nautical décor. The park plays relaxing island music all day long and it really gives the whole place a wonderful atmosphere. There are attractions for children and adults, for the daring and the not so daring as well.

11. Slide Central

There are 7 water slides at this park. They range from single rider slides, tandem inner tubes and even large rafts that can fit 5 or 6. One of the most popular slides is the ‘Crush N’ Gusher’. This is a 2 person raft water slide where you start by entering an abandoned fruit-processing plant and plunge down a 400 foot slide with tubes and open air sections.

10. Makin’ Waves

Typhoon lagoon also has two attractions that are great for hot Florida days when you want to get some sun and relax. The first is the Surf Pool. This wave pool is the largest in North America and produces 6 foot swells (waves) all day long. This pool is great for people of all ages because you can choose to stay in the shallow end or swim to the deeper in and catch a wave and ride on into the shallows. Inner tubes are not allowed in the pool, but it is a blast body surfing the swells. There is a sonic boom that happens right before a big wave comes so you will know they are coming!

9. Relax On Castaway Creek

The second fun and relaxing attraction at Typhoon Lagoon is Castaway Creek. This creek meanders all throughout the park and has 5 areas where you can get in, grab a raft and just drift along the creek. This is a great way to relax in the sun and stay cool. Castaway Creek is 2,000 feet long! Bonus tip: inner tube use is included in your park ticket.

8. Shark!

One of the most unique attractions at Typhoon Lagoon is Shark Reef. Shark Reef is a 362,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with fish, sharks and stingrays. Masks and snorkels are provided for you to enjoy this swim. This is a great animal interaction that is included in your park ticket!
There are several areas to get snacks, meals and beverages throughout the park. There are also lockers to rent and showers and nice locker rooms to change at the end of your day!

Typhoon Lagoon offers special surf lessons to guests before the park opens to the public. If you’ve ever wanted to try and hang ten this would be the place to do it!

6. Blizzard Beach

Blizzard Beach was once a ski-resort that has melted into a great water park. Since at one time Blizzard Beach was a ski resort there is still a chairlift that will take you to the top of Mount Gushmore. At the top of Mount Gushmore you will have three of the best park attractions to choose from: Summit Plummet (120 foot long, single rider slide with a 12 story drop!), Slush Gusher (90 foot long water slide, single rider tamer slide) and Team Boat Springs. Team Boat Springs is a family style water slide that can have 6 guests in a large family inner tube.

5. Relax On Cross Country Creek

Blizzard Beach has a 3,000 feet long Cross Country Creek that allows guests to float on inner tubes around the park. There are 7 landings where you can pick up an inner tube and enter the creek. This creek takes you through a polar landscape, including caves and waterfalls.

4. Just For Kids

Ski Patrol Training is an activity driven area for tweens that includes obstacle courses and slides that are age appropriate. For example, one area has tricky ice floats that children will try to get across using a cargo net for support. This is a great area to drop your kids to get some energy out and have fun doing it!

3. Melt Away Bay

At the base of Mount Gushmore is Melt Away Bay. This is a massive swimming area lined with white sand beaches and lounge chairs to soak up the Florida sun! The waterfalls of Mount Gushmore create small swells for you to relax in; there are also rock outcroppings and waterfalls to enjoy in this area.
