How To Do Disney on a $2,200 Budget – Plan #2

This article is the second in a series of three detailing plans for visiting Disney on a budget. Each plan includes a 6-night stay for a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 “junior” over the age of 9, and one child under the age of 9). The first article took advantage of a special room rate being offered by Disney in the late winter/early spring of 2015. This article offers an “off-property” hotel option that is reasonably priced and includes daily breakfast. It also includes only 2 park days with the Park Hopper option, but includes the “Water Park Fun & More” option on the tickets. There are so many different things to do around the Walt Disney World Resort!

Budget Amount – $2200

Accommodations: Hampton Inn Orlando/Lake Buena Vista

Season: Early September

Cost of Room – $600 for 6 nights

Cost of Park tickets – $1,153 (3 adult tickets and 1 child ticket for 2 days, plus Park Hopper Option and Water Park Fun and More)

Cost of grocery delivery – Approximately $75 This includes:

  • Bottled Water – $10
  • Bread – $10
  • Peanut Butter – $7
  • Jelly – $3
  • Cold Cuts and Cheese – $15
  • Snacks (Pretzels, Fruit Snacks, Teddy Grahams) – $16
  • Delivery Fee – $14

Cost of restaurant meals: $342 This includes:

  • Lunch at Typhoon Tilly’s – $38
  • Dinner at Fairfax Fair – $39
  • Lunch at The Dolphin Fountain – $46
  • Lunch at Capt. Cook’s – $37
  • Dinner at Sunshine Seasons Food Court – $42
  • Dinner at 1900 Park Fare – $140

Day 1 – Arrive mid-day. Make sandwiches from grocery delivery for lunch/early dinner. Enjoy time at the hotel pool and have sandwiches for dinner.

Day 2 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Board the hotel shuttle and head to the Magic Kingdom. Eat packed sandwiches for lunch with bottles of water from grocery delivery. Take the monorail to Epcot. Enjoy dinner at Sunshine Seasons Food Court (average cost of entrée – $12 x 3 plus $6 kids meal with cups of ice water to drink).

Day 3 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Take a hotel shuttle to Epcot and transfer to a bus to the Boardwalk Resort. Take the FREE Boardwalk Ballyhoo Guided Tour at 9:00am. Take a boat ride on the “FriendShip” boats around Crescent Lake. Get off at the Dolphin hotel and have lunch at The Dolphin Fountain (average cost of entrée – $13 x 3 plus $7 kids meal with cups of ice water to drink) Head to take a bus to Animal Kingdom and transfer buses to Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House. Enjoy the wildlife in the savannah behind the Lodge. Take the FREE culinary tour (leaves from Boma Restaurant) at 3:45. Enjoy packed sandwiches for dinner. Take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and transfer to a bus to Disney’s Fort Wilderness for the FREE Campfire Sing-a-long with Chip and Dale! Take a Disney bus back to the Magic Kingdom and transfer to hotel shuttle.

Day 4 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Board hotel shuttle to any theme park and transfer to a Disney bus to Old Key West Resort. Board a bus at Old Key West to Typhoon Lagoon. Enjoy lunch at Typhoon Tilly’s (average cost of entrée – $10 x 3 plus $8 kids meal with cups of ice water to drink). Take a Disney bus back to Old Key West Resort and transfer to a Disney bus headed to Epcot. Take hotel shuttle back to Hampton Inn and enjoy sandwiches made in-room for dinner.

Day 5 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Take the hotel shuttle to Animal Kingdom park. Eat packed sandwiches for lunch with bottles of water from grocery delivery. Take a Disney bus to Hollywood Studios. Enjoy dinner at Fairfax Fair (average cost of entrée – $11 x 3 plus $6 kids meal with cups of ice water to drink).

Day 6 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Board the hotel shuttle to Epcot theme park and transfer to a Disney bus to the Swan Hotel. Walk to the Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course. Walk back to the Swan and take a Disney Bus to the Magic Kingdom. Walk or take the Monorail to the Contemporary Resort and enjoy the butterfly garden. Take the monorail to the Polynesian Resort and enjoy lunch at Capt. Cook’s (average cost of entrée – $10 x 3 plus $7 kids meal with cups of ice water to drink). Take the Monorail to the Grand Floridian Resort. Enjoy exploring the grounds until 4pm. Then enjoy FREE live music in the beautiful lobby. Enjoy dinner at 1900 Park Fare (Complete Buffett cost – $40 each for 3 adults plus $20 for the child). Take the Monorail back to the Magic Kingdom and transfer to hotel shuttle.

Day 7 – Eat breakfast at the Hampton Inn. Depart Disney. Make sandwiches with leftover bread for the plane ride or drive home!

As you can see, the above plan takes advantage of the fact that Disney allows guests to bring their own food and beverages into the parks! If you are driving to Disney and don’t require delivery service, you will save a bit of money on your groceries.
