Are These 5 Disney World Restaurants Ready for Mothballs?

Are These 5 Coral Reef Restaurants Ready For Mothballs?

As much as we love Disney, we all know that there are certain things than can use an update or just be closed entirely. One of the best things to do while at Disney World is eat! But truth be told, some places are just better than others and some just need a total refurb! And with the recent addition of new restaurants, such as Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom, it wouldn’t hurt to change some of the older restaurants as well.

5. The Plaza Restaurant

This restaurant seems like it has been around for ages! Located right on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom, it has perfect views of Cinderella Castle. Unfortunately once inside you will notice the dining area itself is unusually small, compared to some of the other restaurants throughout Magic Kingdom. The menu is also nothing to write home about. It mainly contains your standard burgers, sandwiches, and so on. With such an ideal location, this restaurant could use a major update, both inside and in the menu!

4. Grand Floridian Café

Just about everything located inside The Grand Floridian Resort is stunning, but the Grand Floridian Café could use a few minor updates. Upon first glance you’ll notice it seems a little outdated. Luckily, this is an easy fix! The views of the grounds are outstanding and a little updating could make this restaurant a star!

3. Tortuga Tavern

This quick service restaurant located in Magic Kingdom isn’t quite as popular as some of the other quick service options throughout the park. The inside could definitely be updated as well as the menu. A Mexican restaurant could really be a home run if done right. But a whole new idea may be the answer to this lack luster quick service restaurant.

2. T-Rex

With its sister restaurants, Rainforest Café, located in both Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney, this café isn’t much different. The food is good, with a similar menu to Rainforest Café. Critics argue that the atmosphere is too loud and obnoxious. I find more problems with the seating, personally. The tables are too close together and leave barely any room in between. I think the layout could definitely be adjusted. If you go during a slow time, you may feel differently.

1. Coral Reef Restaurant

This restaurant has one really good thing going for it, atmosphere. The atmosphere is amazing. Dining right next to a giant aquarium is really an unbeatable experience. Unfortunately, the menu isn’t as great. The food is way over priced for what you get. The food in general is decent and the portions are small. It would be hard to completely demolish a restaurant that has been featured in television shows such as Full House, but some sort of change is needed! If you do decide to go here, plan on going for the atmosphere, not the food!

Not everyone is going to agree with what restaurants and attractions should be closed, updated, etc., but regardless, Disney World is an ever-changing place! And with Be Our Guest Restaurant as proof, Disney knows how to bring that same Disney charm in new and exciting ways! So what restaurants do you think Disney needs to give the boot?
