The 10 Things That You’ll Love About Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Old Key West Resort

Disney’s Old Key West Resort was the first DVC resort. As more resorts have been added to that catalog, guests are able to book rooms at Old Key West based on availability. There are a lot of perks that come with staying at Old Key West and we are excited to share the top ten things that you’ll love about Old Key West!

10 – Location – Old Key West is located on Bonnet Creek Parkway. Its location is unique because it is located by so much! Guests can quickly get to Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon, and Epcot. If driving, you can also take advantage of a shortcut to reach Magic Kingdom and the Monorail Loop resorts!

9 – Parking – Guests at Old Key West are generally able to park directly in front of their building which makes unloading all of your bags, strollers, cases of water, and whatever else comes along for vacation so much easier!

8 – Wonderful Views – There are a lot of buildings at Old Key West, but they are spread out. If you do your research ahead of time, you can make a room request (Touring Plans offers a great tool to assist with this) and snag a wonderful view room. On my last trip to Old Key West, I was in an end room with a balcony overlooking a wooded area with a view of the water, too! If you want a more “active” view, you could also request a view of the golf course that runs through the resort!

7 – Family Nature – Since Old Key West was the first DVC resort, Disney created a family atmosphere and posts pictures of families who have bought into the resort. The pictures are displayed in the hallway between Olivia’s Café and the general store. It is a wonderful addition to the resort design and laid-back feel of property.

6 – Olivia’s Café – This is the lone sit-down restaurant at Old Key West. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it does all three very well! Keeping with the theme of the resort, Olivia’s offers classic Southern dishes. For breakfast, you can choose from Banana Bread French Toast or the Conch Republic Omelet (featuring shrimp, advocado, and pepper jack cheese). At dinner, you have the choice of delicious ribs, classic fried chicken, or a variety of dishes featuring delectable seafood! Even on trips when we aren’t staying at Old Key West, we try and stop by Olivia’s for a meal because it is so good!

5 – The Gurgling Suitcase – Practically a hole in the wall just down from Olivia’s Café, this bar offers up some great libations for you to enjoy. I discovered it one night while waiting for my wife to finish getting ready for dinner. There is a small amount of seating inside, but one of the walls opens up and allows guests to be outside and enjoy the evening breeze!

4 – Value – Disney classifies Old Key West as a Deluxe Villa Resort alongside the likes of Beach Club, Boardwalk, and the Polynesian, but rates at Old Key West are much more affordable. Additionally, since Old Key West was built first, the rooms are slightly larger than the newer villas Disney has built to go into the DVC family.

3 – Transportation – In addition to the bus transportation around to the parks, Old Key West has an added method of transportation for guests wishing to go to Disney Springs. Guests can climb about an open-air boat for a relaxing boat ride down to Disney Springs. I haven’t had the chance to try this out yet, but from guests who have gone, I have heard nothing but positive reviews!

2 – Theme – For guests who have visited the actual Key West, they will know that attitudes in the Keys are both unique and relaxed and that attitude translates into the resort town known as Conch Flats. You can spend time at the “Sandcastle Pool” or take a ride around the resort on a bike or play some cornhole by the pool.

1 – Exercise – Guests can choose to keep active on their vacation at this resort by walking around and taking in the sights. Additionally, guests who want a little more challenge to their workouts can take advantage of the newBalance running trail that is present on site, in addition the a gym located in the main building.

Whether guests are looking to take a break from the normal and relax or are trying to stay active, Old Key West offers the best of both worlds for your next trip to Walt Disney World. These are only the top ten reasons why we love the resort, but if you stay here, we are confident you’ll find many more reasons to call this resort home!
