7 Things You Should Do The Week Before You Leave for Disney

Walt Disney World

Planning a Disney trip begins months in advance. You may make your resort reservations a year before you intend on visiting the parks and circle the date on your calendar, but as your trip grows closer, there are a lot of things that you need to consider doing before making it to the parks! Here is our list of the seven things that you need to do before leaving for Disney.

7 – Double Check the Weather Forecast – even though Disney World is located in Central Florida, it is still a good idea to double check the weather forecast. I have failed to check the forecast on more than one occasion and have a Disney sweatshirt to mark each time I forgot. If there is rain in the forecast, head to your local CVS or Walgreens where you can purchase cheap, disposable ponchos to throw in your park bag in case it starts raining.

6 – Create a MyDisneyExperience Account and Download the Disney Parks App – with the advent of MyMagic+, Disney has made it much easier for guests to plan, customize, and research their trips before leaving their homes. You will want to create your account and download the app on your smartphone. Having the app will allow you to make changes on the go to reservations and FastPasses, as well as see attraction wait times and park and resort maps. Be aware that the app can drain your battery, so you may want to pack a charger or a battery stick to keep your devices charged!

5 – Link Your Tickets to Your MagicBand – you will want to link your tickets to your MagicBand so you can head directly to the parks when you land in Orlando and avoid having to juggle multiple things for the parks. You can link the tickets on-line through MyDisneyExperience.

4 – Re-Check Dining Reservations – beginning about a week before your trip, you will want to start looking at dining reservations again because guests may start cancelling reservations that they had made and that could allow you to get into a restaurant that you really want. Keep in mind that if you had made multiple reservations that you should cancel the ones you don’t want to avoid the $10 per person charge if you fail to show for your reservation.

3 – Check-In Online – if you have your tickets and Disney has shipped your MagicBands, you can check-in online before leaving home. This allows you to maximize your park time by heading directly to the parks. You can put a credit card on file for incidentals and Disney will e-mail or text message you when your room is ready and let you know what the room number is.

2 – Make Note of Extra Magic Hours – at times, Disney will change the Extra Magic Hours for the parks. Double check to see if any of the parks have added hours. This may make you change your touring plans or to make some extra plans to enjoy some additional time in some of your favorite parks.

1 – Stretch! – you are going to be walking a lot on your vacation, take some time the week before leaving to go for some walks around the block to start stretching your muscles and getting used to walking longer distances.

Going to Disney is a fantastic experience, but there is a lot of prep work that goes into a trip. What do you have to do before heading to Disney?
