The Top 5 Things To Expect From Walt Disney World Weather

Rainy Disney World

They don’t call it the Sunshine State for nothing! Guests come from all over the world to experience the magic that the Walt Disney World Resort offers. It is important to know what kind of weather you will be experiencing when you’re there, so here are five things to expect of Florida weather on your next trip!

5. Blistering Hot Seasons

If you plan to visit during the spring, summer, and fall months, be prepared to endure some incredibly hot temperatures. The Florida sun will shine its rays for the majority of the day and it will for sure cause guests to sweat like mad. Be sure to pack light clothing, such as shorts and tanks (preferably in light colors so that dark colors don’t absorb the heat), a bathing suit for refreshing yourself in the pool or on water rides, and sun-protectant gear such as a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. The heat is in full swing for the majority of the year in Sunny Florida, so chances are you will need to pack light for most of your trips.

4. Sunshine and Storms All in 5 Minutes

Florida is notorious for having beautiful crisp sunny days only to be ruined by a thunderstorm five minutes later. This may sound crazy, but what is even more mind-boggling is the fact that that same thunderstorm will most likely clear up in 5-10 minutes and you will see beautiful blue skies again. This off and on pattern of sun and storms is common amongst the spring and summer time months and can be a bit frustrating to deal with. The weather patterns are totally unpredictable in the Sunshine State. Since it can be sunny or rainy (or both), its best to pack a poncho just incase you get rained out. Luckily these showers may not last very long, so you can just pack up the poncho and continue on with your day. Hurricane season is also in effect from the summer months into early fall. Since Florida is a peninsula, a hurricane can be very severe on the land. If you realize your vacation is during the days of a possible hurricane visit, be sure to contact the Walt Disney World resort and see what your options are for rescheduling your trip, or if you are still going, determine what activities you will partake in that will keep you and your family safe.

3. Humidity

The number one misery of the heat is the humidity that comes with it. Florida heat is unlike any other because of the high levels of humidity. Be prepared for moist days and be sure to hydrate consistently, since this can be a huge impact on your day. Keeping refreshed is key to not being hot and ‘sticky’, but it can be hard to avoid since it is so evident throughout the year.

2. Questionable Winters

You never know how cool it will get during the winter months in Florida. Some winters can get really cold, even reaching the high 30s in temperatures when there are cold fronts. Most of the time, winters are ‘cool’ in the 60s and 70s. Depending on the kind of winter the Sunshine State is experiencing, you should definitely check the weather to see how heavy of a sweater you should pack. Sometimes winters temperatures don’t even kick in until after the New Year. With the unpredictable changes in weather, you never know what you’re going to get!

1. Change of Plans

With all of the questionable weather patterns that Florida has to offer, you can definitely expect to have to change your plans. Unfortunately, storms are the biggest reasons for cancellations of shows, parades, and various rides. It is extremely heartbreaking to hear that the event you’ve been waiting to experience has been cancelled or shut down. While this may put a damper on your plans, try to turn that frown upside down and check out some of the other rides, shows, etc. that are still open for viewing. If you have a park hopper pass, you can possibly utilize half of another day to go back to the park so that you can see what you missed out on due to the weather.
