Top 10 Tips for Epcot’s Future World from a Veteran

Epcot Monorail

If entering Epcot from the main gate, the first area guests will encounter is Future World. There is much to see, do, and explore when visiting Future World, so there are many tips that you should keep in mind so you can experience as much as possible!

10 – Arrive At Rope Drop – the two lands of Epcot have different opening times. Future World opens first, usually at 9 AM or earlier on days when the park has Extra Magic Hours in the morning. Most pavilions in World Showcase don’t open until 11 AM, but that is subject to some exceptions. With at least two hours of time, guests can focus on Future World and ride some of the attractions and explore other areas before the second half of the park opens.

9 – Bypass Spaceship Earth First Thing – Spaceship Earth is what Walt Disney referred to as a “weenie.” These attractions were created to draw crowds in when the park first opens. You can see that this works if you arrive at rope drop and see that wait times for Spaceship Earth approach an hour. If you wait a little while, you can easily walk onto the attraction with a minimal wait.

8 –FastPasses a Necessity – Epcot operates using a tiered FastPass distribution system, separating attractions based on popularity. Currently, guests are allowed to select a FastPass for Soarin’, Test Track, or Frozen Ever After as their Tier 1 selection. All of these attractions are popular, so you need to have a FastPass for them if you want to avoid waiting in lines that easily reach triple digits.

7 – Rope Drop Attraction – our family is partial towards Test Track, so we usually use our Tier 1 FastPass for that. With that FastPass scheduled before we enter the park, we will then head for the other Future World attaction, usually Soarin’, to ride it quickly before the line gets too long.

6 – Unexplored Pavilions – Future World has many pavilions that are less-explored, but have fun things to explore. Guests should be sure to check out the Universe of Energy Pavilion, as well as the Imagination and Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavilions. It is easy to spend an hour in each of these pavilions, so be sure you don’t lose track of time!

5 – Delicious Snacks – one of our favorite things to do after riding Soarin’ is to head to Sunshine Seasons and grab one of their delicious snack dishes or desserts. The counter-service restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so there is always food there and the menu is constantly changing, so you can always find something new!

4 – Table Service Restaurants – Future World is home to two great table-service options. Even though World Showcase is known for having the dining options, guests looking for amazing seafood should consider the Coral Reef Restaurant located in the Seas Pavilion and guests who have a little bit more of an appetite and want something more traditional should check out the Garden Grill on the second floor of the Land Pavilion. Meals are served all-you-care-to-enjoy and guests are visited by Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale during their meals.

3 – Wonderful Shopping – Future World is home to MouseGear, where we can always find exactly what we are looking for (and sometimes things we aren’t)! The Art of Disney store is also located in Future World where guests can purchase Disney prints and other art to take home and add to their collections!

2 – Special Events – during the Food and Wine and Flower and Garden Festivals, Future World is home to the workshops hosted during the events. Usually, these events are held in the Wonders of Life Pavilion (located between the Universe of Energy and Mission: SPACE). However, at times, some of these events are held in different areas in Future World, so if visiting during one of these events, make sure to grab a map and a Times Guide so you know where to go and when!

1 – Entertainment – when people think of Epcot entertainment, most will focus on World Showcase, but there are some pop-up entertainment options in Epcot – our favorite being the JAMitors – located in Future World East – again, consult your Times Guide to see if they are performing during your next visit!

Future World is rumored to be in for an overhaul to keep pace with the new additions in other parks, but even without these renovations, there is plenty to see and do in Future World. Use these tips on your next trip and see what you’ve been missing!
