14 Exciting Changes Coming to Walt Disney World in the Next Few Years

14. New Main Street USA Live Theater

This beautifully designed theater is modeled after the 1920’s Kansas City Willis Theater that Walt would have seen after his family moved from Marceline, Missouri to Kansas City, Missouri.  This elaborate theater will host World-class entertainment at the Magic Kingdom.  Basically, the shows will feature shorter versions of why you might see in a Broadway musical.

13. “Guardians of the Galaxy” Attractions/Epcot/Future World

This new ride will replace the former “Universe of Energy” attraction and will be Epcot’s first “coaster” ride.  It will be a “Guardians of the Galaxy” themed ride which will be indoors and will be a one-of-a-kind coaster which will include all new unique special effects.

12. Updated “Mission Space” Experience/Epcot/Future World

There will be two new movies debuting at this attraction.  On the Green Mission side (a less intense experience), visitors will blast off for an orbital adventure around Planet Earth.  On the Orange Mission side, travelers will get an updated voyage to Mars with many more thrills and excitement.

11. Space Restaurant/Epcot/Future World

This new table service restaurant will be located right next to “Mission Space” and will give guests a chance to dine among the stars above the earth, with space-age décor and outstanding views of outer space—a truly out-of-this-world dining experience.

10. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway/Hollywood Studios

This ride will be replacing “The Great Movie Ride” at Hollywood Studios.  This will be the first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction. Guests will become a part of the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse cartoon where you’re the star and anything can happen.  This madcap adventure will feature surprising twists and turns, creative special effects and mind-boggling transformations that occur right before your eyes.

9. “Star Wars” Galaxy’s Edge/Hollywood Studios

The new “Star Wars” Land is the largest ever single-themed land expansion at Walt Disney World.  Guests will be transported to a faraway planet, a trading port, and one of the last stops before embarking on an exciting trip into the outer reaches of space.  There will be two brand new attractions to experience.  One takes place aboard the Millennium Falcon where guests will actually be able to pilot it; banking left, right, while firing laser cannons at enemy spaceships.  In the second attraction, guests will be thrown into the midst of a battle between the resistance and the First Order in a race against time.  Cast Members will be in full planetary costumes and will interact with guests, not as Cast Members, but as their counterpart inhabitants of this strange new land, with shops, attractions, and restaurants all themed to fit the “Star Wars” era.

8. “Ratatouille” Attraction/Epcot/World Showcase/France Pavilion

The France Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase will be expanding to include this new ride inspired by the popular Disney animated film, “Ratatouille”.  At Disneyland Paris, “Ratatouille” has become one of the most popular attraction has become one of the most popular attractions.  Guests will be able to shrink to Remy’s size and  scurry to safety in an epic chase across the kitchen, with all the sights,  sounds, and smells of Gusteau’s legendary Parisian restaurant.  The attraction will use mouse-shaped trackless ride vehicles and 3-D projections.  it will join the other highly popular “Frozen” attraction located at the Norway Pavilion in World Showcase.

7. New Film in China Pavilion/Epcot/World Showcase

Visitors to the China Pavilion will enjoy a brand new film with new subject matter and a state-of-the-art digital camera system which will help guests feel even closer to the host country.  The film will be shown in a new seamless Circle-Vision (360 degree) with new spectacular photography highlighting the beauty and old-world beauty of this ancient country called China.

6. “Star Wars” themed Resort

Disney’s first experience-based Hotel.  This Resort will be one of the most exciting and creative Disney Resort Hotels ever.  You are not just a guest; you and your family and friends will become citizens of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up it the proper futuristic attire.  Once you leave Earth, you will discover this Starship is filled with characters from other planets, stories, and new adventures.  Every minute you are on board the Starship you will a part of the story.  Cast Members will become characters interacting as fellow travelers and crew members, helping to make your journey even more extraordinary.

5. Disney’s Riviera Resort

Located near Epcot, adjacent to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, this new Hotel will become a part of the Disney Vacation Club and available to both DVC members and non-DVC members.  It will get its inspiration from the glamorous South of France, boasting a rooftop restaurant offering breathtaking views of the nighttime fireworks spectaculars at Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Another new perk will be the fact that guests will be able to travel to and from Epcot and Hollywood Studios on the new Disney Skyliner Gondola System.

4. Disney Skyliner

Yes, another complimentary mode of transportation for Walt Disney World.  The Disney Skyliner Gondola System will connect Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to four resorts: Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Pop Century, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and the new Disney Riviera Resort.

3. Minnie (as in Minnie Mouse) Van Service

This service offers door-to-door transportation for guests.  Riders use the Lyft app to request a ride while on Walt Disney World property and can pay directly through the app.  A WDW Cast member can pick up to seven passengers, including two car seats (at no extra cost).  The Minnie vans will run from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30  a.m.  The vans are delightfully styled after Minnie’s favorite colors—red with white polk-a-dots.

2. Toy Story Land/Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Based on the very popular “Toy Story” movies, this new addition to Walt Disney World caters to the “child” in all of us.  Just imagine being shrunk to the size of a toy to explore the world of Andy’s backyard with your favorite “Toy Story” characters, including Woody and Buzz.  There will be two new themed attractions:  “Slinky Dog Dash”-a family friendly roller coaster you will want to ride again and again.  The other attraction, “Alien Swirling Saucers” is designed as a toy play set that Andy got from Pizza Planet.  Aliens are flying around in their toy flying saucers and trying to capture your rocket goy vehicle with the “Claw”.  Adding to the “Toy Story” Land adventure will be the addition of a third “Toy Story Mania” tack so that more guests can enjoy this very popular ride.

1. “Tron” Roller Coaster/Tomorrowland/Magic Kingdom

A version of this extremely popular ride from Shanghai Disneyland will be coming to Walt Disney World and will most likely be as popular in Florida as it is in Shanghai.  Riders will climb aboard a futuristic cycle for a wild ride through a “Tron”-inspired universe.   If you want to get a view of this exciting ride, check it out on YouTube.  The Florida version may not be exactly the same, but the thrill factor will definitely be worth the wait.

Walt Disney World will be celebrating 50 years of magic in 2021.  I know my family and friends are making our plans now to be a part of the “50 Years of Walt Disney World” celebration.  It’s gonna be “Magical”!
