8 Walt Disney World Resorts We Can't Get Enough Of

Fort Wilderness Campground

2. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds

Campers rejoice! You can still experience all the same magic of staying on Disney Resort property while taking in an authentic campsite experience with Fort Wilderness. More than 750 wooded acres encompass the grounds of this resort with all the tranquility and nature you’d expect to find deep within the reaches of a remote camping site. It’s surprising to think that you are really only just a short boat ride away from the lively Magic Kingdom Park.

Accommodations range from nearly 800 traditional sites as well as rustic-themed wilderness cabins. The aforementioned sites come equipped with electricity hookups, working water, sanitary disposal, free Wi-Fi and cable, paved driveways, picnic and cookout pads, and resort wide efficiency features like ice machines, restrooms with private showers, laundry facilities, and air-conditioned comfort stations. While Fort Wilderness cabins fall within the Moderate Resort distinction, they are really more comparable to the rooms you’d expect to find at some of the more expensive hotels. There are hundreds of cabins to choose from, spanning 500 square feet in space and able to comfortably house up to six guests. These woodland-themed retreats come fully furnished with all the comforts of home, including kitchens, air-conditioning, televisions (and DVD players upon request), bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and even an outdoor picnic area and charcoal grill. Housekeeping services are also included, keeping your cabin comfortable during the duration of your stay.

Enhancing your traditional camp experience you will find a whole host of onsite activities and features, from swimming and other recreations to exciting entertainment and ongoing activities. And yes, like any true Disney resort you know you can expect delicious dining right onsite. Two such fun and festive feastings for all ages to delight in are the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue dinner show and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. Both occasions present all-you-can-eat bounties, with the first featuring endless fried chicken and other frontier themed fare while entertaining diners with a fun-loving two-hour vaudeville style show. The second is the best backyard barbecue you’ll ever attend, but that’s to be expected with Disney. Enjoy an endless spread of all your favorites, all set up in traditional buffet style. And enhancing the experience even further, your host Mickey along with friends Goofy, Minnie, Chip, and Dale (and live entertainers) will all be onsite, leading in a toe-tapping hoedown and other great fun. Other places to grab grub around the grounds include, but are not limited to Trail’s End Restaurant, the Chuck Wagon, and Crockett’s Taverns.
