7. “Shanghaied” Week (2nd Week of January)
With the busy Christmas holiday season having finally wound down, the second week of January offers a much calmer atmosphere at the Disney Resort. The crowds are lower, the room rates are lower, and of course the temperatures are lower. Your biggest challenge this week is planning around the ride closures that commonly start around this time for renovation, repair, and updating. The Mickey Mouse short “Shanghaied” opened in theaters on January 13, 1934 and told the story of Mickey and Minnie being captured and held on Pete’s pirate ship. Take a voyage with the Pirates of the Caribbean – naturally! – to mark the date.
