What You Should Know If This Is Your 1st Trip To Disney World

Contemporary Resort Monorail

4. Know that you should book your Disney Resort hotel early.

This cannot be overstated—especially if you’re planning to visit the parks in the summer or during holidays. Book your Disney Resort hotel as soon as you set a date for your trip. Disney World allows resort reservations to be made up to 499 days in advance. Call (407) W-DISNEY to book directly through Disney.

3. Know that you should make your dining reservations early and quickly.

This is especially important if you’ll be at the parks during peak seasons. Dining reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance, and many restaurants book up completely almost immediately after the 180-day window is opened. With the exception of only a couple of experiences, it doesn’t cost you anything up front to make a reservation. You can always cancel it later. Just be sure to cancel 24 hours in advance of your reservation, or you will be charged $10 per person for canceling. You can reserve dining experiences at www.disneyworld.disney.go.com or by calling (407) WDW-DINE.

2. Know that FastPass+ selections aren’t just “a good idea.”

Almost 50 million people visit the parks at Walt Disney World each year. That calculates to almost 137,000 Guests in the parks each day of the year—and the majority of those Guests intend to experience the same attractions you want to experience. Now enter the brilliant FastPass+ system, which lets you and your family reserve times for up to 3 attractions per day, based on a tier system. Those times are not limitless.

There are only so many FastPass+ times available for each attraction each day**, so if you wait until you get to the parks to make your selections, you may have very limited choices. If you are staying on Disney property, you can reserve your FastPass+ times 60 days in advance. If you will be staying off Disney property, you can reserve them 30 days in advance.

**Attractions such as Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Avatar: Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, Toy Story Mania, Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Haunted Mansion and Frozen Ever After are some of the most sought after when it comes to reserving FastPass+ times. If you hope to experience any of these, be sure that you get a FastPass+ time for them first, if they are available.
