3. Old Hollywood Atmosphere

Brown Derby Interior

Patterned after the famous Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood California – this unique eatery displays caricature drawings of celebrities like Lucille Ball, Bette Davis, Charlie Chaplin, John Wayne and many more celebrities lining the walls in every direction. Dark woods and warm lighting set the tone for a luxurious lunch or dinner and give you a taste the glory days of old Hollywood when celebrities like those mentioned above were fixtures at this famous eatery. To have your caricature on the wall was a symbol that you had been inducted into Hollywood’s elite.

2. Delectable Menu Items

Your meal begins with sourdough rolls accompanied by whipped butter topped with Hawaiian sea salt and sprigs of thyme. Seasonal specials augment regular menu offerings and provide an array of choices to tempt even the pickiest of eaters. On our recent visit, we dined on an appetizer of blue crab spring rolls, roasted chicken and their signature dish, Cobb salad. All were simply delicious and beautifully presented. An ample children’s menu is also provided and includes appetizers of chicken noodle soup, chop salad, celery and carrots for your healthy eaters as well as entrees like grilled breast of chicken, penne pasta, hotdogs, fried fish sticks grilled cheese. A definite kid-pleaser dessert at the Derby is vanilla ice cream with chocolate Oreo cookie crumbs and gummy worms topped with a fresh-baked chocolate cookie.

1. Hollywood History

You can’t visit the Derby without trying the Cobb salad which was first created at the Hollywood Brown Derby by proprietor Robert Cobb. Cobb raided the restaurant’s fridge to prepare a late-night snack for theater magnate Sid Grauman who came in unexpectedly. Grauman had dental problems so Cobb chopped up all the ingredients he could find and prepared a salad for the owner of Grauman’s Chinese Theater for easy noshing. Grauman loved the salad so much that he returned the next day and ordered the salad again. Other restaurant visitors saw the concoction and began ordering it as well and viola! The Cobb Salad was born!
