10 Secret Activities at Walt Disney World Resorts

Surrey Bike

When you think of Walt Disney World, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the theme parks. You think of Cinderella Castle, escaping a Yeti, dropping down in an elevator and learning about how civilization on earth has evolved. But Walt Disney World is so much more than just the theme parks—there’s a vast majority of resorts to explore, too! Here are 10 of the best secret activities hiding at the resorts on property:

10. Outdoor movies.

Many of the resorts offer complimentary late night showings of Disney movies! And, if you’re staying at one of Epcot’s resorts or, they show their movies on the beach in front of Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club resorts, which is my personal favorite! The Polynesian also shows their movies on the beach.

9. Campfire fun.

Chip ‘N’ Dale host their own campfire sing-along at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and the best part is it’s free! All you have to do is pay for marshmallows to roast and then you’re good to go! Many of the resorts also offer their own campfire activities.

8. Bicycle rentals.

If you want to slow down the pace of your vacation, rent a bike and take a leisure ride around your resort! Not only is it a great way to get in some exercise on your trip, but you’ll see parts of your resort that you didn’t even know existed.

7. Spa day.

The word ‘spa’ is in the title of Disney’s most lavish resort name for a reason! The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is home to Senses, which is a Victorian-themed full service spa. If you’re craving a few hours of total relaxation, this is the place to go.

6. Boat rentals.

Many of the resorts offer you the chance to rent a motorized boat, which is awesome! Gather the family for an afternoon and take a ride around your resort. If you’re staying at The Grand, you can cruise around Seven Seas Lagoon!

5. Arcades.

Believe it or not, many of the resorts have arcades with enough games to keep you busy for hours! I’m a video game girl myself, and I love kicking back and playing some new and classic games with the family.

4. Horseback Riding.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort lets you get close to the animals—literally! You and your family can go horseback riding during your stay at the most magical place on earth. For younger children, pony rides are also available.

3. Water activities.

Some resorts offer you the opportunity to go water skiing, kayaking and canoeing. Even if you’re not staying at a resort that offers this, you can still go, sign up and pay to indulge in one of these excursions. Can you imagine water skiing in Seven Seas Lagoon?

2. Archery

If you’ve ever wanted to be like Merida, now is your chance! A few of the resorts on property offer you the chance to try your hand at archery, as long as you’re six years old and older.

1. Starlight Safari.

That’s right—you don’t need to go to Animal Kingdom to experience a safari! If you are a guest staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you have the opportunity to pay $70 to experience an hour-long nighttime safari. And what’s the best part? A portion of the money you pay is donated to the Disney Conservation Fund.

While we all love the parks and could probably spend our entire vacations in them, it’s nice to take a step back and see what else the resort, as a whole, has to offer. Whether it’s complimentary experiences or ones you pay a little extra for, your family will love making new memories.
