15 Things Disney Rookies Must Do At Disney World's Epcot

Spaceship Earth

14. Experience Spaceship Earth

While photos are fun, what you really have to do is take in the full Spaceship Earth ride experience. That’s right, that big silver ball is more than just an impressive marvel of construction; it’s really the housing location for one of Epcot’s most beloved classic attractions. As a slow-moving dark ride, all ages can share in this roughly 15-minute adventure through time, which highlights and celebrates the many different advancements and achievements by humankind and the developmental methods for communication throughout the ages. Riders gather together in cars that seat up to four and begin their quest by first transcending back into Cro-Magnon civilization. From there the ascent continues forward along the timeline with a look at the numerous innovations throughout history along the way. Life-like animatronics and scenery are used to recreate historic milestones and accounts, giving the rider a visual reference for that particular timeframe. Then, just as you finish your climb up the timeline of humanity you will be presented with a stunning aerial view of Planet Earth—the Spaceship and foundation of civilization and progress. The ride concludes with a descent back down, at which time riders will turn to the screens in their cars for a fun, interactive feature that allows them to custom-design their own futures by answering a few questions. Additionally, Spaceship Earth houses a unique post-show area known as Project Tomorrow, which lets guests enjoy a wide range of interactive activities and extras themed after the importance and impact of technological progress on the human experience.
