15 Things You Always Wanted to Know About Walt Disney World But Were Afraid to Ask

MagicBand

8.  Are Magic Bands tracking me?

Technically the RFID technology used in Magic Bands does have tracking abilities, but only when there are other RFID devices to pick up on them. Guests who think their every move is being tracked by Disney are mistaken. In theory, Disney can see that you rode Space Mountain when you scanned your band for a Fastpass, or that you rode Expedition Everest when your ride photo was loaded onto your band, but they can’t tell where you outside of the parks, when you use the bathrooms, and where you eat (unless you pay using your band). The tracking that does take place via Magic Band is strictly for marketing research purposes, things like seeing how many people make a Fastpass for a certain ride at a given time for instance. There is not one person sitting in an office off-site somewhere watching your every move.
