10. Mickey’s Relatives
In the comic strip it is revealed that Mickey Mouse has a sister named Amelia Fieldmouse. Amelia’s sons Morty and Ferdy appeared in a 1934 short Mickey’s Steam Roller.
11. Mickey’s Statue
The “Partners” statue of Walt and Mickey that is prominently displayed at both Disneyland and Disney World was introduces in 1993 and 1995 respectively. Walt never wanted us to forget “that it was all started by a mouse.”
12. Mickey at WDW
Disney is tight-lipped about how many “Mickey’s” are at WDW at any given time. (Because there’s really only ONE Mickey, right?) However, any Disney guest knows that there are multiple meeting spots, parades, holiday parties, and character meals where the Mouse can be found, in many different types of clothing. Some rough estimates say there are about 300 Mickey costumes at WDW. But the best Mickey greeting is immediately to your right upon entering Magic Kingdom—he’s the only one who talks!
13. Mickey’s Star
In 1978 Mickey became the first cartoon character to have his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What a great 50th birthday gift!
14. Mickey’s Marketing
Perhaps the real genius behind Mickey Mouse’s success has been the successful branding and marketing that began almost immediately after his initial acclaim. The first Mickey product was a writing tablet. Today Disney officials claim that 98% of children ages 3-11 worldwide know who he is. This is probably because Mickey-related merchandise makes up 40% of product revenues.
15. Mickey’s New Ride
Can you believe Disney has never had a ride dedicated to Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Disney World? Well… now Mickey and his pretty mouse lady will have their very own had resort’s first ever “2 and ½ D” attraction! Mickey’s Runaway Railway is coming to Hollywood Studios! It’ll debut in time for Disney’s 50th Anniversary!!!
