Universal Orlando guests have a lot to look forward to, but 2026 will also bring significant downtime across the resort. Multiple popular attractions are now confirmed to close for scheduled refurbishments, meaning visitors will want to plan trips carefully to avoid missing key experiences.

The most notable closure affects Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure. The ride will shut down on January 5, 2026, and is expected to remain offline until November 19, 2026. This extended break suggests a substantial refurbishment, far beyond a routine maintenance cycle. The classic water-based attraction has been running since 1999, and the nearly year-long downtime signals major updates to ride systems, effects, and possibly show scenes.
Another closure to be aware of affects both Universal theme parks. The Hogwarts Express, which connects Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, will close for maintenance from February 9 through February 23, 2026. While the downtime is relatively short, the Hogwarts Express plays a dual role as both a ride and transportation. Its temporary closure will change how guests move between parks during that period, requiring traditional park re-entry instead of train travel.

Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida will also undergo brief maintenance, scheduled for January 15 through January 21, 2026. The attraction received a major refurbishment in recent years, so this one-week closure appears to be for routine upkeep and system optimization.

In addition to ride closures, Universal’s Volcano Bay water park will enter its seasonal shutdown beginning October 26, 2026. It is expected to reopen by March 2027. Seasonal maintenance at water parks is standard, though the extended timeframe suggests deeper infrastructure work and enhancements to prepare for high-traffic spring and summer months.

For travelers, the dates are crucial. Guests hoping to experience Jurassic Park River Adventure should aim to visit before early January or after mid-November. Those seeking Hogwarts Express travel should avoid mid-February, and fans of Revenge of the Mummy will want to skip its single-week closure if possible. Anyone planning a water-park-focused vacation should stick to warmer months or early fall.
Despite these closures, Universal Orlando will still offer a full slate of attractions, including all-new experiences at Epic Universe. With strategic planning, guests can still enjoy a strong park lineup while these rides receive needed improvements.
