Pressed pennies are a great souvenir for Disney fans for all ages! These little trinkets cost little to collect and offer days of fun finding the locations throughout the Disney Parks.
8. Magic Kingdom
At the Magic Kingdom, you can find over 30 machines around the park. Look for the machines outside of attractions, in gift shops, and throughout all the lands of the Magic Kingdom. We love that each machine is individualized to that area of the park!
You can collect over 90 pennies throughout Epcot! Often the machines are tucked in a small niche near larger attractions or specialty shops. Usually they offer 3-4 different penny choices.
6. Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios has 30 machines in the park offering over 100 different pressed penny options. We’ve found machines in the oddest locations, including near bathrooms! Each one has a unique design and we love to collect them all!
Animal Kingdom has 23 machines located throughout the park. We counted 60 penny options! Look for the machines in gift shops and throughout the Safari animal tour area.
4. Disney Springs
Disney Springs provides 18 machines throughout the area and you can collect a whopping 71 pennies here! You can find machines outside and inside of restaurants and stores.
Almost all of the Disney resorts have penny machines. Resorts where penny machines can be found include: Disney’s Caribbean Beach, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s All Star Resorts, Disney’s Art of Animal Resort, Saratoga Springs, Coronado Springs, Fort Wilderness, The Contemporary, The Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Port Orleans, Boardwalk and more. Penny machines can also be found at both of the Disney water parks and at Fantasia Gardens mini golf.
The collectable pressed pennies first appeared in Walt Disney World in 1994. The penny is pressed and elongated after running through two rollers, which has an engraving on the surface. The rollers on the machine place around 2,500 pounds of pressure on the penny. Some penny machines are now automatic and crush and engrave the penny with the push of a button, where other require a hand crank where you do the work yourself! We’re partial to the fun of cranking the machine and watching our work turn the penny into souvenir magic!
1. How to collect
At a cost of 51 cents per pressed penny, this can be an economical souvenir. The various buttons and cranks that the machines have make it a fun interactive experience as well. Although there are nearly 600 different pressed pennies available to collect, you can limit your collection to characters or series of coins that are of particular interest to you in order to keep your total expenditures low. You can also find a selection of great pressed penny wallets and holders at the park gift shops to make your collection even more special.
