Permit Warning: What Disney Resort to Keep Away From Next Year

Walt Disney once promised that Disneyland would never stop growing, and now, so many decades later, that statement has never been more true. Not only has Disneyland expanded, but so has the Disney Parks department in general.

With all of these constant new rides, offerings, hotels, and upgrades, a lot of construction also comes (which some guests may want to avoid).

Disney has officially filed permits for a significant refurbishment of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, focusing on the Kidani Village section. The permit, submitted by Disney Vacation Club Management Corp., has been registered with Orange County and outlines plans for general renovations expected to last until late 2025. The project aims to enhance guest accommodations in one of Disney World’s popular resorts, reflecting ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade facilities in the face of changing guest expectations.

The renovation announcement carries implications for guests planning to stay at the lodge. The extensive work is anticipated to overlap heavily with the regular vacation seasons, raising concerns about potential disturbances and the overall guest experience during this period. Disney has not publicly detailed the scope of the renovations, but similar projects at other properties have typically included room updates and enhanced guest facilities.

Permit Filed for Kidani Village

The permit specifically pertains to Kidani Village, which features villa-style accommodations and is a key component of the Animal Kingdom Lodge experience. This area is popular among Disney Vacation Club members and families who prefer more spacious lodging options. Given the lodge’s renowned proximity to safari views, the refurbishment is poised to modernize the venue while maintaining its distinctive African-themed aesthetics.

Expected Completion Date: Late 2025

The expected completion date for the renovations is set for December 31, 2025. This timeline suggests that the refurbishment process will be extensive, requiring significant time for updates. During this period, guests may experience increased construction activity, which could disrupt their comfort and enjoyment of the resort’s natural tranquility.

Guest Experience Impact During Renovations

As work progresses, Disney is prioritizing clear communication with guests. Information regarding potential noise and service changes will be key to managing guest expectations. Although the updates are crucial for long-term improvements, they may temporarily impact the unique atmosphere guests associate with staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Current Renovations Affecting GuestsAnimal Kingdom Lodge

Currently, renovations at the Animal Kingdom Lodge are already in progress, specifically targeting the Kidani Village area. External work began in September 2024 and is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2024.

Ongoing External Work Schedule

Ongoing external renovations may temporarily obstruct views of the resort’s picturesque Sunset Savanna, particularly for guests dining at the lodge’s popular Sanaa restaurant. While guests can still enjoy wildlife viewing at select locations, the overall experience may not align with the expectations set by Disney’s marketing portrayal of the lodge.

Dining Experience Disruptions

Dining experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge may also be affected as the renovations unfold. The lodge is noted for its remarkable dining options that celebrate African cuisine, which are likely to experience interruptions. Ensuring that guests are aware of these changes and fully understand how they may impact their choice of resort during their stay is essential.

Importance of Communication for Guests

Disney has been proactive in communicating about which amenities will be available and which will be affected during the renovations. This effort is part of a broader strategy to uphold guest satisfaction, even amid temporary inconveniences.

Despite the upcoming renovations, staying at a Disney resort like Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge comes with numerous benefits that enhance the overall vacation experience.

Proximity to Theme Parks

Guests at the lodge enjoy unique advantages such as proximity to Disney World’s multiple theme parks. This close access allows visitors to maximize their time at the parks without the hassle of lengthy travel times.
Additionally, guests can take advantage of Disney’s comprehensive transportation system, which facilitates convenient access to all major attractions.

Exclusive Amenities for Guests

Disney resorts provide exclusive amenities, including early access to park reservations. These perks allow guests to experience popular attractions before regular park guests, significantly enhancing the quality of a Disney vacation.

Unique Dining and Recreational Options

Beyond their strategic location and convenience, Disney resorts are characterized by distinctive dining and recreational options. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge stands out for its immersive themed dining experiences, such as the critically acclaimed Sanaa restaurant, which offers African-inspired dishes alongside impressive views of exotic wildlife.

Broader Renovation Trends Across Disney

As Disney World undergoes the planned refurbishment of Animal Kingdom Lodge, it is also focusing on various updates across its other resorts to maintain a high standard of guest experience.

Additional Closures Scheduled

Numerous other Disney resorts are scheduled for renovations.

Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort is scheduled for a significant refurbishment in 2025, impacting the availability of Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool from January to June.

During this closure, guests will still have access to the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools. However, these pool closures may affect guests’ accommodation choices for 2025, especially considering the resort’s premium pricing.

In addition to the pool closures, the Yacht Club side of the hotel will undergo room renovations from January to May 2025. This work may result in construction noise and a decrease in the number of available rooms.

While the renovations aim to create a more modern look, some guests have expressed concerns about the lack of Disney theming. Notably, the renovations are being handled by external contractors instead of Disney Imagineering, which could contribute to a more generic feel.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort will also undergo room refurbishments in 2025, affecting room availability on the Bay Lake side.

Despite these renovations and closures, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort remains a popular destination due to its close proximity to EPCOT. Guests planning to visit during this period should be aware of potential disruptions and may want to consider alternative accommodations if necessary.

In addition, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be performing maintenance on the Fantasia Pool from January to April 2025; however, guests can still enjoy the Duck Pond Pool during this time.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is currently in a multi-year refurbishment. While the room renovations have been completed, work continues on the BoardWalk itself. The new Cake Bake Shop Restaurant is expected to open in late 2024.

Furthermore, Disney has announced that the Surfboard Bay Pool and kiddie pool at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort will be closed for maintenance from January to late April 2026. While this may impact vacation plans, guests will still have access to various other pool options.

During this time, All-Star Sports guests can enjoy the Grand Slam Leisure Pool or visit the pools at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort and Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.

In other news, Walt Disney World appears to be advancing plans for a new hotel at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort property. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) obstruction evaluation case indicates that a mobile crane will be used for the hotel construction.

The location of the permit aligns with Disney’s earlier announcements about the proposed Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge project, which is designed to be a nature-themed resort featuring Disney Vacation Club villas for timeshare customers.

Lastly, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is set to expand with a new DVC tower, with construction continuing through 2026. This project may impact views of the theme park and surrounding areas. The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is scheduled to open on December 17, 2024.

Amidst these renovations, Disney has also focused on animal welfare following Hurricane Milton.

Animal Care During Hurricane Milton

Dr. Mark Penning, Disney’s Vice President of Animals, Science, and Environment, has provided updates on the welfare of the animals at Walt Disney World during and after the hurricane. The dedicated care team took measures to ensure the animals were safe and closely monitored throughout the storm’s duration.

Recovery and Return to Normalcy

Post-hurricane, Disney’s animal care team has been diligently working to assess the animals and restore their habitats. This commitment to animal welfare is a crucial part of the experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, where interactions with wildlife are a central attraction.

Notable Damage to Other Resorts

While the Animal Kingdom Lodge largely fared well, other Disney properties, such as Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, reported minor damage that required repairs. Disney continues to address these issues swiftly to ensure guest safety and comfort throughout the property.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is set to undergo extensive renovations leading to a scheduled completion in late 2025, with ongoing updates across various resort properties. Being mindful of these changes is essential for guests planning their stay, as Disney strives to maintain its reputation for exceptional service and guest immersion.
