Walt Disney World Resort‘s Space Mountain recently experienced an unexpected closure that disappointed many guests. The Magic Kingdom Park ride was shut down for nearly two days due to an unspecified issue, prompting many visitors to seek alternative entertainment options like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
During the closure, Walt Disney World Resort guests took to social media to express their frustrations and share their experiences. Reports indicated that the ride remained closed for extended periods, with some users highlighting issues even during the high-traffic Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party event.
“There must be something seriously wrong with the coaster if they can’t open one side,” said Redditor u/vinnyv0769, who initially reported the Space Mountain closure.

“Space Mountain has been down for most of today and for the last 8 hours,” the Disney Park guest explained. “… It’s the one ride that people want to ride during the Halloween party because it’s completely dark.”
“It went down yesterday and then for most of the day today,” they continued. “We will see about tomorrow. It’s a huge issue that will most likely need to be addressed and not put off.”

The guest even suggested that Walt Disney World Resort may need to close and rebuild its Space Mountain, like Tokyo Disneyland, or retheme it to Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, like Disneyland Paris.
“It might be time to do a full refurb on it,” they concluded. “Honestly, it’s run its course. No reason both sides stay down for so long.”

Ride breakdowns are not a rare occurrence at Walt Disney World Resort. As technology advances, the wear and tear from thousands of daily visitors can take a toll on even the most robust attractions. Technical difficulties, malfunctions, or even situations where personal items are lost on rides necessitate closures for inspection and safety checks.
Disney cast members conduct extensive safety checks to ensure the rides are safe before reopening.
