One Key Character Has Been Cut From ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a transitional phase, and Captain America: Brave New World is a major piece of the puzzle. The film, which marks Sam Wilson’s first solo outing as Captain America, has been through extensive rewrites and reshoots, leading to speculation about what’s changed behind the scenes.

Now, we finally have confirmation that one major cut has been made: Eli Bradley, a character many expected to be a key part of the Young Avengers’ future, has been removed from the final version of the film.

Why Eli Bradley Was Cut

Eli Bradley, played by Elijah Richardson, was introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the grandson of Isaiah Bradley, the forgotten super soldier. In the comics, Eli eventually becomes the hero Patriot and plays a major role in the Young Avengers.

Given his connection to both Isaiah Bradley and Sam Wilson, many assumed Brave New World would expand on Eli’s character. However, producer Nate Moore recently confirmed that while Eli was in early drafts of the script, he was ultimately removed.

Moore explained that the decision was made to keep the story focused on Isaiah and Sam, without adding a third character to their dynamic. “We wanted to make sure every character had something to do,” Moore said, implying that Eli’s role wasn’t substantial enough to justify his inclusion.

While this might make sense from a storytelling perspective, it has disappointed many fans who have been waiting for the Young Avengers to take shape in the MCU.

What Does This Mean for the Young Avengers?

Marvel Studios has slowly been introducing members of the Young Avengers across various films and Disney+ series. Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), America Chavez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Cassie Lang (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), and Billy and Tommy Maximoff (WandaVision) have all made their debuts.

But while most of these characters have had meaningful screen time, Eli Bradley has remained in the background. His removal from Brave New World suggests that Marvel isn’t in a rush to bring the Young Avengers together anytime soon.

This has led to frustration among fans who feel that Eli, a character with a strong comic book legacy, is being overlooked. While Marvel may still have plans for him, his absence in Brave New World raises questions about when (or if) he’ll get a proper introduction as Patriot.

Could Eli Still Appear Elsewhere?

While Eli won’t be in Brave New World, there are still possibilities for his return. Some fans speculate that Thunderbolts*(2025) could be a place for him to show up, or that Marvel is holding off on giving him superpowers until a future Young Avengers project is announced.

However, if Marvel doesn’t prioritize his development, he could end up as little more than a forgotten character—a fate many feel would be unfair given his importance in the comics.

For now, the MCU continues to evolve, and Brave New World is just one piece of the puzzle. But for those hoping to see Eli Bradley suit up as Patriot, the wait just got even longer.

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
