Disney Praised for Closing Sexist, Outdated Muppets Attraction

Disney Parks fans are divided after a Walt Disney World Resort guest publicly called Muppet*Vision 3D misogynistic and outdated ahead of its permanent closure. The decades-old attraction, which has been a staple at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1991, will soon close to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) land and roller coaster. Some are lamenting the loss of one of Jim Henson’s final projects, while others are praising the decision, saying the attraction’s humor is no longer appropriate for today’s standards.

During the D23 Expo 2024, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, confirmed that the long-rumored Monsters, Inc. door coaster and themed land would replace The Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new area will be replacing not only Muppet*Vision 3D but also Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and the PizzeRizzo Quick Service dining location. Muppet*Vision 3D will face its final curtain call on June 7, much to the disappointment of some Disney Parks fans.

While many fans are sad to see Muppet*Vision 3D leave Disney’s Hollywood Studios, others are celebrating the change, with one Disney Park guest on Reddit sparking heated debate over the attraction. The guest, who goes by u/narmire, expressed their dissatisfaction with the show’s content, implying it is misogynistic and outdated.

“I’m not sorry Muppet Vision is leaving,” the Reddit user wrote. “It needed to be revamped at the very least – upskirt jokes aren’t funny. (Seriously – I know Ms Piggy has a shtick where she’s uptight and arrogant, but that just makes it worse that the jokes she is involved with are about showing her underwear or ripping her skirt off).”

They continued, sharing how watching the show in 2025 was a letdown: “I was really disappointed watching the show today, I remembered it being funny and the dated jokes ruined my experience… I was looking forward to going and then was very disappointed when her skirt was torn off in the finale and I was supposed to laugh at it.”

Some Disney Parks fans agreed with the Reddit user’s take, acknowledging that the attraction, despite its charm, may have become outdated.

“I absolutely love the Muppets and I will be sad it’s leaving,” said u/nowhereman136. “However, it is pretty dated. The show has been running for 30 years and it looks it. The jokes are getting bland, Waldo is annoying, and the Muppets in general have just evolved since then. The saving grace of the show is that it’s the last thing Jim Henson personally worked on with the Muppets before he died. So this show still going is like Henson himself still going. But it’s time for change.”

However, the backlash against the original poster’s opinion was intense, with some fans defending the show and its legacy.

“I’m glad I don’t go though life searching for things to offend me,” u/nevets4433 argued. “A 20 year old comedy about an anthropomorphic frog, a patriotic eagle, and a pig in a dress certainly isn’t going to make me blush… Did the joke age well, maybe not. But let’s not go overboard here. I can agree that the whole courtyard needed a makeover if it was going to stay though. I’m sad that the attention it will get is the wrecking ball…”

What a bizarre reaction to Muppet jokes,” u/underbadger replied.

Disney has assured fans that it is exploring ways to preserve the Muppet*Vision 3D experience for future generations to enjoy. And while the Muppets are leaving their current location, they won’t be gone for long. Walt Disney World Resort has announced plans to retheme Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith into a Muppets attraction in the future, although no specific timeline has been provided for this change.

  1. I’m gonna leave it right here. If you got offended by a fictional puppet pig, then you better seek help.

  2. People get offended over the littlest things, get a grip on life. Everything offends someone, don’t go to Disney or better still, don’t leave your house

  3. Closing the Muppet attraction is a slap in the face of the wonderful Jim Hensen. We love the Muppets. People need to get a sense of humor. What’s next: offending people by saying “hi.” They haven’t officially left yet, but :BRING BACK THE MUPPETS.

  4. Love muppet vision and will miss it !! One of my family’s favorite attractions!!
