On July 7, 2025, Tom Sawyer Island officially closed its gates for the last time at Magic Kingdom. The closure marked the end of an era for the beloved attraction, which had been a staple of the park’s rustic charm for decades. The decision to shut down Tom Sawyer Island coincided with the dismantling of adjacent features, specifically the Rivers of America and the Liberty Square Riverboat, leading to significant changes in Magic Kingdom‘s landscape.

Guests wandering the park now find themselves met with walls and obstacles separating them from the tranquil island setting that once offered a haven for exploration and imaginative play. The absence of Tom Sawyer Island eliminates a unique corner of the park where families could engage in creative adventures, such as traversing wooden bridges and exploring hidden paths.

Many guests expressed their sadness over the closure, reminiscing about family trips spent exploring the island’s nooks and crannies. For some, it was a cherished memory of childhood adventures, now forever altered.
