July 4 Brings Harrowing Experience to Guests in EPCOT’s China Pavilion

On July 4, countless Walt Disney World Resort guests had an unexpected and somewhat chaotic experience when a sudden rainstorm hit, leaving many scrambling for shelter. The storm caused a flurry of activity, as guests raced to find cover. For one group of friends visiting EPCOT, their shelter of choice was the China World Showcase Pavilion.

JoJo’s World, a popular YouTube channel with over 1.4 million subscribers, was in the middle of filming a vlog when the storm began to roll in. JoJo and his friends were walking between the Germany and China Pavilions when the weather took a sudden turn. The group ducked into the House of Good Fortune, a merchandise store in the China Pavilion, to escape the rain.

“That came out of nowhere,” said the soaking wet Disney Park guest. “… We’re stuck in China now.”

The quick shift from sunshine to heavy rain caught everyone off guard, and some of the group’s beverages were lost in the scramble.

“I spilled all of my beer,” JoJo remarked. “My hands smell like beer… I’m glad my camera’s okay. It’s so wet.”

His vlog footage shows the China Pavilion nearly empty, with only a few guests braving the rain in ponchos.

As the storm continued, JoJo pointed out how lucky they were to be inside when they were.

“Wow. It’s good we came in here when we did,” he said. “… There’s no way I can go outside right now. I have no protection.”

The rain made it nearly impossible for guests to walk around the park without getting drenched, forcing many to take shelter until the storm passed.

Luckily, the rain didn’t spoil the day entirely. Once the storm cleared, the group was able to enjoy the Fourth of July fireworks at EPCOT.

Summertime in Central Florida is notorious for bringing random storms, even when rain isn’t in the forecast. If you’re planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation this time of year, add ponchos to your packing list… You’ll thank us later!
