Disney World Brings New, High-Tech Cameras to the Theme Parks

Walt Disney World Resort is bringing some exciting new technology to its parks with the introduction of upgraded high-tech cameras for its Disney PhotoPass photographers. Just weeks after the arrival of a few upgraded Disney PhotoPass cameras, the new equipment has already been rolled out at EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Eventually, photographers at Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and other Walt Disney World Resort locations will receive the updated cameras.

Guests have already spotted Disney PhotoPass cast members testing Sony A7IV cameras across the four theme parks. This marks a significant upgrade from the Nikon D7500 cameras that Walt Disney World Resort has used since a partnership with Nikon began in 2013. However, Nikon signage disappeared from the Central Florida Disney parks shortly after the partnership ended in 2021.

According to BlogMickey, Disney cast members confirmed that the new Sony cameras are officially in use at EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Some photographers at Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are still using the older Nikon cameras, but the new Sony cameras are gradually being integrated at these parks as well. Disney has teased that the camera updates won’t be limited to the theme parks, signaling even more changes on the horizon.

The Sony A7IV camera, which retails for about $2,700, offers a significant upgrade in image quality, especially when paired with a flash attachment and the 24-105 f4 G-series lens ($1,400). Of course, Walt Disney World Resort is likely receiving these cameras at a discounted rate for its legion of photographers.

Disney PhotoPass photographers are stationed at several popular locations in Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach. They can also sometimes be found at Disney Springs and select Disney Resort hotels, especially during special events and the holiday season.

For those who want to capture every magical moment, Walt Disney World Resort offers two options for purchasing Disney PhotoPass photos: individually or as part of the Memory Maker package. Guests can opt for a one-day Memory Maker for $75, or they can choose to purchase it for the duration of their stay for $185 if bought up to three days in advance, or $210 if purchased last minute. The packages include ride photos.
