You don’t forget a Disney park icon like Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat.
For many guests, it was the first thing they saw when walking into Hollywood Studios—the giant blue hat with stars and a crescent moon towering over everything else. It was bold, magical, and totally unmistakable. Then, in 2015, Disney took it down—and fans have been asking about it ever since.

Turns out, the hat is coming back. But this time, with a twist.
A New Role in a New Era
According to confirmed concept art for a new attraction called The Magic of Disney Animation, Disney is bringing back the Sorcerer Hat in 2026. It won’t be the same centerpiece that once stood 122 feet tall, but it’s still a meaningful addition to the park. This smaller version will sit atop the new attraction’s building, nodding to the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in California.
No retail space. No pin trading. Just a visual tribute to an icon that once defined an era at Hollywood Studios.
Animation Comes to Life
The Magic of Disney Animation is shaping up to be a love letter to Disney’s legacy. Themed after Once Upon a Studio(2023), the attraction imagines what happens when animators step out and the characters come to life. Guests can draw their own characters, watch a new animated short, and explore an Alice in Wonderland–inspired kids' play zone.

This entire area, including a stylized courtyard modeled after the original Burbank studio, creates a setting that honors Disney’s past while inviting new generations to explore the art of animation.
More Than Just a Hat
This isn't just about bringing back a decorative piece. It’s a symbolic move—one that shows Disney is tuning in to fan nostalgia while continuing to push the park forward. The return of the hat may be subtle, but for many, it’s a big deal. It taps into that magic Hollywood Studios had in the early 2000s, before the park underwent so many changes.

A Full Park Refresh
And speaking of changes—there’s a lot happening at Hollywood Studios right now.
A new Monsters Inc. land is set to replace Muppet*Vision 3-D and the surrounding courtyard. Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster is also getting a full Muppets makeover. On top of that, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will feature new missions and locations starring The Mandalorian and Grogu, with updates rolling out in May 2026.
If this is the direction Hollywood Studios is heading, the park could be entering a whole new golden age—and the Sorcerer Hat, in its own small way, will be part of that magic again.
