Martha Lucia Zapata Echeverrí ended up behind bars following an altercation at Walt Disney World. The incident took place on July 21 during one of Magic Kingdom‘s parades. The 51-year-old Colombian tourist was reportedly visiting Disney World to celebrate her daughter’s 15th birthday.
During the parade, Echeverrí attempted to push through the crowd to secure a better view when she allegedly placed her hands on a 17-year-old girl who was already positioned in front of her.
The teenager had asked Echeverrí not to touch her, prompting a response that would lead to an unfortunate series of events. Echeverrí claimed she was merely trying to reach her daughter, who was located in the front row. However, the situation escalated when she reportedly grabbed the teenager's arm and pulled her to the side.
The teenager sustained a minor scrape and bruise in the process, although no witnesses or security footage were available to clarify the encounter.

Echeverrí was arrested on a charge of child abuse. Echeverrí's legal counsel, attorney Bryan Farinas, responded vigorously to the accusations. He argued that the incident had been mischaracterized and stated, “Based on the information that we have reviewed, Ms. Zapata Echeverrí was confronted and physically pushed by the alleged victim.” Farinas expressed confidence that a thorough evaluation of the facts would exonerate Echeverrí, revealing no malicious intent or abusive behavior on her part.
Echeverrí maintained her innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was able to post bond and was in the process of being released from custody, eager to return to her family and enjoy the remainder of her vacation in the United States.
Having a large crowd gathered tightly in one area can breed tension and conflict, as everyone vies for positioning, particularly for widely anticipated events like parades. Over the years, several incidents have unfolded during such occasions, spotlighting the potential for confrontations. Past events have included other arrests related to altercations at Disney parades, illustrating that tensions can sometimes spiral into conflict.

As a 75 year old man standing for 30 minutes, I know the feeling when foreign guests decide they are entitled to move me out of their way as they arrive just as a parade or fireworks begin. First they squeeze a small child to the front which is OK but then they decide the child needs the parents, siblings and extended family to join the small child standing there alone. No cast members can stop such awful privledged folks. Other guests feel slighted but refrain from causiing trouble which is exactly what these last minute folks want. We have encountered one person in front of a group of people when they invite the rest of their extended group to stand together. Oh no English! The regular response!!!
