Disney’s Grand Floridian Says Farewell to Long-Loved Lobby Touch as Refresh Rolls On

There are certain places at Walt Disney World that you don’t just “walk into.” You enter them. You take a breath, pause, and feel like you're stepping into a story. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is one of those spaces. With its white Victorian architecture, red rooftops, and sweeping views of Seven Seas Lagoon, it delivers that old-Florida elegance that so many families dream about when planning a Disney vacation.

That classic charm is why the Grand Floridian has been in the middle of a major refresh. Disney has been updating rooms, décor, and resort amenities to bring a modern touch without losing the timeless feel. And now, one of the biggest additions to that transformation is just about ready to make its debut right in the heart of the resort lobby.

Disney has officially revealed the name and opening date for the new lobby bar: The Perch, opening November 10. The name will sound familiar to longtime fans, because it nods to the famous birdcage that used to sit proudly in the lobby. Even though the cage itself is no longer there, the spirit of it clearly inspired this new watering hole, and that connection is only going to deepen the emotional pull for guests who have loved this hotel for decades.

The Perch promises warm lighting, brass accents, wood-carved details, and stained-glass touches. It is the kind of space where you can unwind with a small plate or cocktail before dinner at Narcoossee’s or after catching fireworks outside on the shoreline. It feels intentional, not rushed, and that fits the Grand Floridian perfectly.

Of course, change at a resort with this much history will always make fans a little nervous. After all, the Grand Floridian isn’t just a place to sleep. It represents luxury, celebration, romance, and family memories. Weddings happen here. Proposals happen here. Kids walk in wide-eyed, believing they’ve entered a real palace.

Thankfully, the resort refresh hasn’t erased what made it special in the first place. Instead, the updates feel like a respectful evolution — polishing the magic rather than replacing it. The Perch looks ready to become another one of those favorite “pause and soak it in” spots where families and friends gather to enjoy the atmosphere and feel transported.

So when November arrives, grab the monorail, float across to the Grand Floridian, walk through those elegant doors, and make your way to The Perch. Order something sparkly, enjoy the piano music drifting through the space, and toast to a classic Disney resort getting even better with age.
