Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside Construction Extended Through 2027

You arrive at Disney World, excited for a relaxing getaway, only to find construction walls lining parts of your hotel. For many guests at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside, that scenario may be reality for years to come. But what exactly is happening behind the scenes, and how long will guests have to navigate construction during their stay?

Renovations Expand Beyond Original Plans

The Magnolia Bend section of Port Orleans — Riverside has been under refurbishment since May 2025, with Disney initially targeting January 2026 as the completion date. That timeline has shifted more than once—first to February 2026, and now Disney has confirmed the work will continue through August 2027.

Disney’s website explains:

“From early May 2025 through August 2027, Guest rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside will undergo refurbishment throughout different parts of the Resort hotel. During this time, Guests may see or hear construction work in the area.”

The updated wording hints that renovations are expanding beyond Magnolia Bend, meaning more guest rooms and areas will likely be impacted than previously indicated.

What Guests Can Expect

For visitors, this extended construction timeline could affect the peaceful, riverside ambiance the resort is known for. Noise from work crews, limited access to certain areas, and the presence of construction equipment may change the experience for families, couples, or anyone seeking a quieter hotel stay. Those sensitive to disruptions may want to explore other Disney World hotels until the refurbishment is complete.

Disney has not provided details on the final appearance or features of the updated rooms, leaving guests to wonder whether the changes will be minor updates or a full overhaul of the resort’s interiors.

A Sign of Broader Transformation

Port Orleans — Riverside isn’t alone. Across Disney World, major changes are underway: three of the four theme parks are getting new lands, Disney Springs is adding a social interactive experience, and several hotels are undergoing updates. This widespread construction is part of Disney’s effort to enhance future guest experiences, but it also means visitors must be prepared for active work sites throughout the resort.

Keeping up with Disney’s refurbishment schedules can help guests plan their stays around the least disruptive times, ensuring a more enjoyable visit even during ongoing construction.

Once finished, guests can expect refreshed rooms, upgraded amenities, and a revitalized atmosphere at Port Orleans — Riverside. Until August 2027, though, visitors will need to navigate the sounds and sights of an evolving resort.

Disney World travelers are encouraged to stay informed, plan carefully, and choose accommodations that best suit their needs during this period of transformation.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
