UPDATE: Disney World Makes Booking for Large Families More Complicated in 2026

Families planning Walt Disney World Resort vacations with nine or ten people will encounter new challenges when booking Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort starting next year. A policy adjustment means larger groups will need to secure multiple campsites to accommodate everyone, adding complexity and expense to trip planning.

The Central Florida campground has announced a significant change to its capacity rules, effective January 2026. Groups hoping to stay together at the Disney Resort's various campsite options will find themselves navigating a different booking landscape than in previous years.

Maximum Occupancy Drops Across Campsite Categories

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort will limit campsite reservations to eight guests starting in 2026. Previously, parties of nine or ten could book a single campsite, but that option disappears when the calendar turns to the new year.

The new eight-guest maximum applies broadly across the resort's camping accommodations. Premium Campsites, Premium Meadow Campsites, Full Hook-Up Campsites, Tent or Pop-Up Campsites, and Preferred Campsites will all operate under the reduced capacity limit. Essentially, every campground category at the Walt Disney World Resort property is affected by this change.

Cabin accommodations remain unaffected by the updated policy. Those units maintain their existing six-guest maximum, which won't change as the resort moves into 2026.

What This Means for Cost-Conscious Travelers

Despite the capacity reduction, Disney's Fort Wilderness campsites—particularly tent, pop-up, and hook-up options—continue to rank among the most budget-friendly accommodations available at Walt Disney World Resort. This holds especially true for larger parties, even with the new booking requirements.

Many standard Disney Resort hotel rooms and suites accommodate up to six guests. While some Villas and bungalows can sleep nine to twelve people, these premium options remain difficult to reserve and frequently run thousands of dollars per night.

Current Fort Wilderness Reservations Protected Under Old Policy

Guests with existing Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort reservations for December 2025 won't face any disruptions. Walt Disney World Resort is maintaining all previously confirmed bookings that include nine or ten guests. The revised capacity restriction only affects reservations made for dates beginning in January 2026 and beyond.
