This week, Tokyo Disneyland brings back a special version of one of the most iconic Fantasyland attractions. The reimagined experience featuring Marvel Cinematic Universe characters officially reopens December 27, marking the second run of the popular temporary overlay.
Groot Returns to Fantasyland
The Marvel-themed “it's a small world” with Groot originally ran at Tokyo Disneyland from January 15 through June 30, 2025. During that initial period, massive crowds flocked to experience Groot and other superhero characters integrated into the classic boat ride.
The overlay featured MCU heroes embarking on a worldwide vacation, blending Marvel characters with the attraction's traditional celebration of global cultures. Tokyo Disney Resort supported the overlay with exclusive merchandise depicting Marvel characters in the Mary Blair-inspired art style synonymous with “it's a small world.”
Tokyo Disney Resort announced the overlay's return earlier in 2025, following guest demand for the experience. The attraction closed in November for preparation, with workers reinstalling Marvel-specific show scenes and characters.

No end date has been announced for this second run of “it's a small world” with Groot.
App-Exclusive Marvel Comic
Tokyo Disneyland guests can access special digital content tied to the overlay through the Tokyo Disney Resort mobile app. While waiting in the attraction queue, visitors can read “It's a Small World with Groot: On the Move!”—a Marvel comic created exclusively for this experience.
The comic requires guests to activate Bluetooth, location services, and push notifications on their devices before access becomes available.

This is the second exclusive comic developed for the overlay. “it's a small world with Groot: Take Off” was released when the attraction first debuted in January, and was also available only through the Tokyo Disney Resort app while guests waited in line.
An Exclusive “it's a small world” Overlay

Guests at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort won't encounter this Marvel version of “it's a small world” at their home parks. Neither Disneyland Park nor Magic Kingdom Park has announced plans to implement the Groot overlay.
