Disney World Announces Theme Park Closure Effective January 2026

Walt Disney World Resort extended a water park closure on Monday due to sustained freezing temperatures across Central Florida. What began as a three-day shutdown has expanded to five days in total, with Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park remaining closed through the weekend due to dangerous cold weather, making water attraction operations impossible.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Closure Extended Through Friday

Walt Disney World Resort announced over the weekend that Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park would close from Monday, January 12, through Wednesday, January 14. The water park was originally scheduled to reopen on Thursday, January 15.

Weather forecasts for Monday revealed freezing temperatures would persist into the weekend, prompting Walt Disney World Resort to update its website and extend the closure. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will now remain closed from Monday, January 12, through Friday, January 16—a total of five consecutive days.

Meteorologist Ryan Maue (@WeatherProf) posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):

The coldest air of the season arrives late week and lasts into next week. Here's the hour by hour wind chills. Sure, it's cold Friday morning… but notice how chilly it is during the day (Thursday and Friday). Thursday turns gusty early, by dinner time it's already cold. And Friday feels like the 40s & 50s most of the day. #cold #florida

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park is currently closed for seasonal refurbishment and was unaffected by the winter weather-related closures.

Saturday Reopening Planned

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is scheduled to reopen Saturday, January 17, 2026. The Walt Disney World Resort water park will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. that day.

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park is scheduled to reopen on February 15, 2026. At that point, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will close for its seasonal refurbishment. Construction permits suggest Disney plans to rebuild the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide during the maintenance period, following a lawsuit over a “painful wedgie” on the ride.

Both Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will operate simultaneously during summer 2026, from May 26 through September 8. Disney Resort hotel guests will receive complimentary water park entry on their check-in day during that period.
