Disney Just Opened Up More Availability at EPCOT’s Premier Dining Destination

For years, Takumi-Tei has held a particular reputation among Walt Disney World fans. It is not loud. It is not flashy. Nor does it rely on characters or spectacle. Instead, it has quietly become one of EPCOT’s most elusive dining experiences, known just as much for how difficult it is to book as for the quality of the meal itself.

Now, that exclusivity is loosening just a bit.

According to updated information on Walt Disney World’s website and reservation system, Takumi-Tei will begin operating on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting in March 2026. Until now, the restaurant remained closed on those two days, limiting access to five nights a week.

For guests who have spent months refreshing the reservation page or reorganizing entire park days around a single dinner slot, this is a meaningful change.

Why Takumi-Tei Has Always Been So Hard to Book

Located in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion, Takumi-Tei is not designed to serve large crowds. The restaurant focuses on omakase-style dining, a traditional Japanese approach where chefs curate a multi-course tasting menu rather than offering standard entrees.

That structure naturally limits how many guests can be served each evening. Meals take time. Courses are deliberate. Service is paced intentionally. This is not a quick in-and-out dinner before fireworks.

Add in the fact that Takumi-Tei was previously closed two days every week, and the math becomes clear. Demand consistently outweighed supply.

Guests visiting EPCOT on Tuesdays or Wednesdays had no chance at all, regardless of how early they planned or how flexible their budgets were. Short trips made it even harder, especially for visitors who only scheduled EPCOT once during their vacation.

The Reservation System Confirms the Change

While attempts to reach the restaurant directly have not yielded clear confirmation, Disney’s own dining reservation platform is already accepting bookings for Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning in March. That alone is enough to validate the schedule expansion.

This type of rollout is not unusual for Disney. Operational updates often appear in the system before public announcements or before phone messaging is updated. For guests, the reservation calendar is the most reliable indicator of what is actually happening.

A Strategic Move Ahead of Spring Break at Disney

The timing of the expansion is hard to ignore. March marks the start of spring break season, one of the busiest stretches of the year at Walt Disney World. EPCOT, in particular, sees a noticeable spike in weekday attendance during this period.

Dining demand rises sharply during spring break. Even restaurants that are usually manageable become difficult to book, and premium experiences disappear quickly.

By opening Takumi-Tei two additional days each week, Disney increases its weekly capacity by roughly 40 percent. That does not suddenly make reservations easy, but it does spread demand across more days and creates opportunities that simply did not exist before.

What Sets Takumi-Tei Apart From Other EPCOT Restaurants

EPCOT is already known for strong dining options, especially in World Showcase. The Japan Pavilion alone offers multiple table service and quick service choices, including Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo.

Takumi-Tei operates in a different category.

The experience centers on chef-driven tasting menus that highlight seasonal ingredients and refined techniques. The restaurant features multiple dining spaces, each with its own design theme inspired by Japanese natural elements. Guests may move between rooms as their meal progresses, reinforcing the sense that this is an experience rather than just dinner.

Service is formal, detailed, and intentionally paced. It feels closer to fine dining found in major cities than anything typically associated with a theme park.

What This Means for Disney Guests

For guests planning EPCOT visits on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, Takumi-Tei is no longer automatically off the table. That alone makes itinerary planning more flexible.

The expanded schedule may also slightly reduce pressure on reservations for other days of the week, as some demand shifts to the newly available nights. However, this remains a high-demand restaurant, and competition for prime reservation times will not disappear.

Takumi-Tei continues to operate dinner service only, and guests should plan accordingly. The multi-course format requires time and attention, making it better suited for evenings when guests are not rushing between attractions.

Is This a Permanent Change at Disney?

Disney has not indicated whether the added operating days are temporary or permanent. As of now, the expanded schedule extends beyond the initial spring break window, suggesting this may be more than a short-term test.

If guest demand remains strong and operations run smoothly, seven-day service could become the new normal. Until then, guests interested in dining at Takumi-Tei should take advantage of the added availability while it lasts.

For one of EPCOT’s most talked-about restaurants, more open days means one thing. Fewer guests will have to leave EPCOT wishing they had been luckier with reservations.
