Disney World’s Latest Update May Change Your Next Hotel Stay

A construction permit filed for Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter signals upcoming work on the splash pad, which could impact families planning stays at the Moderate Resort hotel.

Walt Disney World Resort submitted a Notice of Commencement on February 18 for “General Construction” at 2221C Orleans Dr—the location of the hotel's splash pad and water park area.

Maintenance Focus, Not Major Changes

The permit offers limited specifics but reveals key details about the project's nature. Disney's Facility Asset Management filed the document instead of Walt Disney Imagineering, pointing to maintenance rather than a significant renovation.

Listed contractor Vermana specializes in pool resurfacing and electric-mechanical repairs. Their involvement suggests refurbishment of existing infrastructure rather than new construction or design changes.

Doubloon Lagoon, the resort's main pool, underwent a major refurbishment in 2024 and is unlikely to be affected by this project.

Disney has not announced closures related to the permit, but the splash pad may temporarily shut down once work begins. Families with young children who specifically choose Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter for the water play area should confirm amenity availability when booking future stays.

The main Doubloon Lagoon pool would likely remain operational during any splash pad closure, though Disney Resort hotel guests would lose access to the dedicated children's water play space.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is unaffected by this filing, though room refurbishments are currently underway at the sister property on a separate schedule.

The permit provides no timeline for when construction will start or how long the splash pad might be unavailable. Walt Disney World Resort typically schedules resort maintenance during slower periods to minimize guest impact, but specific dates haven't been disclosed.

Guests with reservations at Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter in the coming months may want to contact Disney directly to confirm splash pad availability if that amenity factors into their accommodation choice.
