EPCOT's World Discovery Liquid Layer Splash Pad closed abruptly on March 3 without advance warning, blocking families from the interactive water area with stanchions and rope as all features went dark.
Walt Disney World Resort guests arriving at the World Discovery neighborhood found the splash pad completely offline. WDWNT reported that operational problems have plagued the attraction since at least mid-February, though the cooling misters behind the area continue to spray water normally. The outlet posted a Facebook photo of the roped-off space:
Closure Timing Creates Problems at EPCOT

The shutdown occurred one day before EPCOT's International Flower & Garden Festival launches March 4—one of the park's busiest annual events. Spring break crowds will pack EPCOT throughout March and early April, with families relying on the splash pad as relief from the Florida heat while touring the park.
Walt Disney World Resort hasn't explained the closure or indicated when the splash pad will reopen. Possible causes include recent Central Florida cold snaps, technical failures, or maintenance Disney chose not to publicize.
Overdue for Maintenance?

The splash pad's last major refurbishment finished in November 2023. If Walt Disney World Resort follows typical maintenance cycles, the area may be due for another extensive service period.
The functioning meters suggest selective system problems rather than a total failure of the water infrastructure. If the water delivery systems completely failed, the misters would likely be offline as well. The partial operation indicates Disney isolated malfunctioning splash pad components while maintaining other World Discovery water features.
Zero Guest Communication

Walt Disney World Resort provided no advance notice of the closure to guests. Local Annual Passholders planning EPCOT visits specifically for children to enjoy the splash pad arrived to find their plans disrupted without warning.
