Ever since HBO announced plans to reboot Harry Potter as a long-running television series, the project has remained a lightning rod for discussion among fans.
Much of the debate has focused on author J.K. Rowling’s involvement as an executive producer, while diverse casting choices have also sparked heated online discussion.
The Harry Potter Reboot Boasts a Huge Cast
The series will retell Rowling’s books across multiple seasons, with HBO planning a long-term adaptation. Francesca Gardiner is writing and executive-producing the show, while Mark Mylod will direct several episodes.
The production features a mix of young newcomers and established actors. Dominic McLaughlin leads the cast as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The adult ensemble includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Bullying Claims Surface, According to Reports
Filming is currently taking place in Leavesden near Watford on a purpose-built set constructed for the series. The location sits near the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, where the eight original films were shot.
But according to a new report from The Sun, production has also dealt with behavioral concerns behind the scenes.
The outlet claims that producers intervened after two 12-year-old extras were seen fighting during filming. One of the children was reportedly heard shouting, “I’m going to get you after filming.”
A source told the publication that tensions can arise on a production that involves large numbers of young performers. “There are a lot of youngsters on set at any one time, and the reality is that not everyone is going to get on,” the source said.
According to the report, the show’s leadership has taken a hard stance on misconduct.
The same source claimed that the production team has implemented strict rules to deal with the situation. “It’s an alarming problem, and bosses want to get rid of any bad eggs among the cast and crew,” the source said, adding that the accusations involve both adults and children. “Bosses have issued warnings about behavior.”
“It has been made clear that anyone reported for bullying will be immediately axed — no matter how famous they may be,” the source added. “Filming is going to last eight years and bosses are adamant that any inappropriate behavior must be nipped in the bud.”
The outlet also reports that workers have been sent emails explaining how to report incidents and that the production is providing “free online counseling and coaching sessions for all cast and crew and access to wellbeing resources.”
Warner Bros. has declined to comment, according to The Sun.
Season 1 of the Harry Potter series is currently filming and is expected to premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
