‘Spider-Man’ Actor Reveals He Has No Role in Upcoming MCU Movie

Marvel Studios may be laying the groundwork for a major shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with new details hinting at a different direction for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).

When Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) concluded, it left Peter Parker in an unfamiliar place—completely alone, with no one remembering who he was. The ending marked one of the most dramatic resets the character has experienced on screen. Now, as Marvel looks ahead to its next chapter, it appears that even that defining moment is being revisited.

The climax of No Way Home centered on Peter’s decision to let Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell erasing him from everyone’s memory. The consequences were immediate and devastating, particularly for MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), who lost all connection to him.

In the closing scene, Peter stands in a coffee shop, ready to explain everything to MJ with a carefully written letter. Initially, the moment was played with restraint—Peter hesitating before ultimately deciding not to interfere in her life. But new footage tied to Brand New Day suggests a different interpretation of that scene.

According to reports, the letter has been rewritten to present a more straightforward and emotionally transparent message. Instead of holding back, Peter’s words now acknowledge their shared past, explain the sacrifice he made, and confirm his identity as Spider-Man.

The adjustment alters the emotional tone of the scene. What once felt like uncertainty now reads as a conscious, fully realized decision—one that underscores Peter’s understanding of what he has given up.

The change comes as Marvel continues to recalibrate its storytelling approach. With Phase Six on the horizon, there has been a noticeable shift toward more focused, character-driven narratives after years of expansive Multiverse arcs.

Brand New Day is expected to take place some time after No Way Home, in a world where Peter Parker has been erased from existence as far as everyone else is concerned. Spider-Man still operates, but without the relationships that once grounded him.

This new status quo paints a picture of a more isolated hero, defined not by his connections but by the sacrifices he has made. That sense of separation is reinforced by casting developments.

Jon Favreau has revealed that he will not reprise his role as Happy Hogan in the upcoming film. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Favreau explained his absence: “I can give you a big spoiler–I'm not in it. [Peter Parker] lost his memory. I'm not part of [it]; he doesn't remember me anymore. He might meet me again someday, I don't know.”

The news marks the end of Favreau’s nearly decade-long involvement in Spider-Man’s MCU storyline.

Happy Hogan has been a consistent presence in the Spidey series since Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), acting as a mentor figure and a link to Tony Stark’s world. Without Peter’s history intact, that connection no longer exists, making his absence a natural progression of the story.

The decision to remove Happy Hogan points to a broader creative direction. Brand New Day appears to be distancing Spider-Man from Iron Man’s legacy.

Peter’s MCU journey has long been intertwined with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), from mentorship to technology. While that relationship helped establish Spider-Man within the larger universe, it also shaped his identity in a way that differed from earlier interpretations.

Now, that influence is being stripped away. Without Stark’s presence—and without characters like Happy—Peter is being repositioned as a self-reliant hero. This shift brings the character closer to his traditional roots: a young man balancing responsibility and hardship without external support.

All signs point to Brand New Day embracing a more grounded approach. Instead of large-scale crossovers, the film is expected to focus on personal stakes, exploring themes of identity and resilience. Peter Parker no longer exists in the eyes of the world. Spider-Man remains, but he operates alone, carrying the burden of a life that has effectively been erased.

The updated version of the letter scene reinforces this idea, presenting Peter’s decision as one made with clarity rather than hesitation.

Marvel has not yet fully outlined what lies ahead for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the direction is becoming increasingly clear. With a reworked emotional foundation, fewer ties to past characters, and a tonal shift toward more intimate storytelling, the film is shaping up to be a turning point.

It represents more than just a continuation—it’s a redefinition of Spider-Man’s place in the MCU. And as Peter moves forward without the connections that once defined him, his next chapter may be his most independent yet.
