An accidental LinkedIn post has done what Warner Bros. Games hasn't, confirming that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is actively in development.
The Game That Sold 40 Million Copies
Released in 2023 under Warner Bros. Games' Portkey Games label, Hogwarts Legacy was developed by Avalanche Software as an open-world action RPG set in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World.
Set roughly a century before the events of the Harry Potter book series and films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the game drops players into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as new students, learning spells, attending classes, and eventually uncovering an ancient secret woven through the castle and surrounding world.
Despite a significant boycott campaign tied to J.K. Rowling's controversial anti-transgender views, the game sold over 40 million copies across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch at the time of publication.

Games is expected to officially announce the sequel at Summer Game Fest on June 5, with an early 2027 release target in mind — timed to align with the premiere of HBO's upcoming Harry Potter remake series.
