Caesar, one of three bald eagles that escaped from Dollywood's Eagle Mountain Sanctuary following storm damage on April 19, has been recovered. The American Eagle Foundation confirmed the news, noting that Caesar was positively identified by the orange leg band on his leg, marked with the letters SE. The foundation credited community members whose reported sightings directly led to the recovery.

Two eagles remain missing. Rockland and Wesley have not been found, and the American Eagle Foundation has confirmed its team is monitoring messages around the clock as the search continues. Anyone in the Smoky Mountain region who spots an eagle matching either bird is being asked to report it to the foundation.

Caesar's return is the first tangible result of a coordinated effort that began the night the storm hit and has not stopped since. It is also a meaningful moment for the American Eagle Foundation, Dollywood, and the broader community that has been watching this story and contributing sightings since the birds went missing.

How Three Eagles Ended Up Missing From Dollywood

The events of April 19 began the night before, when severe storms moved through Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and uprooted a tree near Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood. The tree struck the aviary building, compromising its structure.

When the American Eagle Foundation's staff responded the following morning to assess the damage and begin relocating the eagles to safety, 29 birds were inside the sanctuary. Twenty-six were successfully transported to the foundation's headquarters in Kodak, Tennessee. Three escaped through the damaged structure during the process.

Dollywood released an official statement on April 19: “Due to storms overnight, a tree near Eagle Mountain Sanctuary was uprooted, causing the aviary to be compromised. Staff from the American Eagle Foundation will remove the eagles from the aviary and will house them at their facilities until the netting can be repaired. The area of the park near the aviary will be closed, and all Wings of America shows for today (Sunday, April 19) have been canceled as necessary work is completed.”

Eagle Mountain Sanctuary is home to rescued bald eagles that cannot survive in the wild. These are not captive birds in the traditional exhibit sense. They are animals that came to the foundation because injury, human imprinting, or other circumstances made independent survival impossible for them.

The care they receive at Dollywood through the American Eagle Foundation is not supplementary. It is what keeps them alive. When three of them went missing during a moment of structural crisis at their home, the foundation and the broader community understood the stakes were genuine.

The Wings of America shows that take place at Dollywood, featuring trained handlers working with the birds in live conservation demonstrations, have been suspended since April 19. They represent one of the more remarkable live experiences at any theme park in the United States, and the absence of both the shows and the birds that make them possible has been one of the story's most consistently discussed dimensions in the weeks since the storm.

Caesar Found, Search Continues for Two More

The recovery of Caesar on Saturday evening changes the emotional tenor of a story that had been running without resolution for more than two weeks. Three birds were out there. Now one is back. The search is not over, but progress has been made in a tangible and real way.

Rockland and Wesley remain unaccounted for. The foundation's 24/7 monitoring of incoming reports reflects both the seriousness with which it is treating the search and the extent to which community involvement has been essential to the effort. Caesar's recovery was made possible by people who reported what they saw. The foundation is counting on that same community engagement to help bring Rockland and Wesley home.

For guests who have been following this story since it began, the recovery is significant but incomplete. The full resolution of the situation, in terms of both the missing birds and the status of the sanctuary and the Wings of America shows, is still ahead.

What Visitors to Dollywood Should Know Right Now

Eagle Mountain Sanctuary and the areas surrounding it at Dollywood remain affected. Wings of America shows are still on hold. The park itself continues to operate normally in all other respects, and the spring season has given guests a strong set of reasons to visit even with the sanctuary closure ongoing.

The Flower and Food Festival is running at Dollywood through June 7, offering seasonal food and beverage offerings across the park with a Tasting Pass covering up to five select culinary items from the festival's menu. Floral installations and decorative displays including the Umbrella Sky feature are active throughout the park.

NightFlight Expedition, the new Wildwood Grove attraction billed as the world's first indoor family hybrid coaster and whitewater river raft ride, is expected to debut sometime this spring. The experience blends four ride types into a single attraction including a soaring flight segment, a whitewater raft run, a roller coaster mountain traverse, and a lake navigation sequence. An opening date has not been confirmed.

For guests specifically interested in Wings of America and the eagle conservation programming that makes Eagle Mountain Sanctuary unique among theme park experiences, the honest guidance remains the same as it has been since April 19: check Dollywood's official Instagram and the American Eagle Foundation's channels before your visit to understand the current status of the shows and the search.

Caesar's recovery is a genuinely encouraging development. Whether Rockland and Wesley are home by the time you visit is still an open question.

If you are planning a Dollywood trip and the eagle experience is important to your group, monitor the American Eagle Foundation's communications and Dollywood's official channels for updates on both the remaining missing birds and the Wings of America show status.

The foundation is taking reports around the clock. If you see a bald eagle in the Smoky Mountain area that looks out of place, report it through the foundation's established channels. Caesar is home. The search goes on for two more.
