Twenty years ago, a Disney Channel show about a girl hiding her pop-star identity from her classmates wrote an episode in which that same girl received a diamond on a fictional Hollywood walkway, only to have a hot-dog vendor set up shop directly on top of it. The show played it for laughs. Nobody at the time was thinking about it as a preview of something that would actually happen two decades later.
And yet.
Miley Cyrus is receiving the 2,845th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 22, and the Hannah Montana episode that predicted this exact moment is suddenly getting a lot more attention than a second-season episode from 2006 normally would.
What Is Happening on May 22
The ceremony takes place at 11:30 a.m. PT on Friday, May 22, at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Cyrus is being honored in the Recording category. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy and fashion designer Donatella Versace will be in attendance, and iHeartMedia personality Ellen K is serving as emcee. The Hollywood Walk of Fame website will stream the ceremony live for fans who cannot be there in person.
Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce was proud to welcome Cyrus and noted that generations of young girls have grown up watching her evolve, finding inspiration in her journey and fearless creativity. That is the institutional version of what Disney Channel fans have been saying for years: that Miley Cyrus has earned this.
The Hannah Montana Episode
The Hannah Montana season two episode, called “Hannah in the Street with Diamonds,” is getting passed around again this week for obvious reasons. In the episode, Miley receives a diamond during the Hollywood Parade of Diamonds, the show's fictional parody of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in a moment intended as a celebratory milestone for the character.
It does not go smoothly. A hot dog vendor moves in and sets up directly on top of Miley's diamond, effectively burying the recognition under a food cart. The episode turns the whole thing into a comedy of errors, as Hannah Montana reliably did with every situation that should have been straightforward.
The real ceremony on May 22 is expected to proceed without street food complications. That is already a significant upgrade over the fictional version. But the existence of a Hannah Montana episode specifically about Miley receiving a star on a Hollywood walkway, two decades before Miley Cyrus actually received a star on the actual Hollywood Walk of Fame, is the kind of coincidence that the internet was built to appreciate.
Why This Year
The Walk of Fame honor arrives during a year that has already been defined by Hannah Montana milestones. The show premiered in 2006, and 2026 marks the 20th anniversary, which has generated retrospective coverage, Disney+ activity, and the kind of cultural reassessment that happens when a show that defined a generation reaches a round-number anniversary.
Hannah Montana starred Cyrus as Miley Stewart alongside Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, Moises Arias, and Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her fictional father while also being her actual father. The show ran on Disney Channel and launched Cyrus to a level of international fame that the fictional Hannah Montana narrative was designed to parody but never quite matched.
Since the show ended, Cyrus has built a career spanning pop, rock, country, soul, and alternative music across multiple eras and multiple reinventions. Miley was named a Disney Legend at the 2024 D23 ceremony. She recorded a song for Avatar: Fire and Ash in 2025. Cyrus has stayed connected to Disney while building a body of work that stands entirely on its own terms.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame star is the recognition that acknowledges all of it simultaneously, the Disney Channel years and everything that came after.
The Hot Dog Situation on Hannah Montana
No vendors have been confirmed for the May 22 ceremony. The star is the 2,845th on the Walk of Fame. It is in the Recording category. It is real, it is happening this month, and a second-season episode of Hannah Montana already covered this storyline twenty years ago with significantly more culinary interference.
Miley Cyrus is getting her star. The show called it. The hot dog cart did not make the guest list this time.
