Epic Universe has quickly become the centerpiece of Universal Orlando Resort. Ever since the park debuted in May 2025, crowds have poured into the gates to experience its massive lands, advanced attractions, and new entertainment offerings. But while fans continue praising the park itself, a newer addition has begun to cause frustration online.
Many guests already consider Epic Universe one of the priciest days at a theme park in Orlando. Tickets alone can stretch family budgets before adding hotels, food, souvenirs, and extras. Now, Universal’s newest ride option has some visitors wondering just how expensive a day inside the park could become.
Epic Universe Has Become Universal’s Biggest Draw
Universal spent years building hype around Epic Universe, and the payoff has been huge. The park opened with multiple immersive lands that each feel completely different from one another.
Guests can visit SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Celestial Park all in a single day.
The attraction lineup has also helped keep crowds high. Epic Universe launched with 11 major rides plus stage shows, interactive experiences, and entertainment offerings spread across the park. Attractions like Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Stardust Racers, and Mine-Cart Madness regularly generate long waits.
With demand remaining strong, Universal introduced another way for guests to skip some lines.

Universal Express Now Lets Guests Pay Per Ride
Universal’s newest system, called Universal Express Now, allows visitors to buy skip-the-line access for individual attractions instead of purchasing a full Express pass.
Rather than paying for unlimited or full-day access, guests can choose select attractions one at a time and reserve expedited access for a single ride.
Prices usually range from $20 to $30, depending on the attraction and crowd levels. Eligible experiences currently include Stardust Racers, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, Mine-Cart Madness, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, and several others throughout the park.
For visitors focused on just one or two major attractions, the system may feel useful. Still, many fans quickly noticed similarities to Disney World’s own skip-the-line setup.

Fans Say Universal Is Following Disney’s Lead
Disney World already charges guests separately for Lightning Lane Single Pass attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Avatar Flight of Passage.
Those rides often cost guests $20 to $30 each, in addition to regular park admission.
That comparison is exactly why some Epic Universe fans are frustrated. Paying extra for Battle at the Ministry may feel reasonable because it is one of the park’s biggest headliners. But many visitors feel differently when attractions like Yoshi’s Adventure are priced similarly.
For years, Universal positioned itself as the less expensive alternative to Disney vacations. Some guests now feel the gap between the two companies is shrinking.

A Full Day Of Add-Ons Gets Expensive Fast
Universal still offers traditional Express Passes for Epic Universe, but those can already cost hundreds of dollars depending on the day. Prices can climb from the high $100s to well above $300 per person during busy periods.
Guests must also buy separate park admission before using those passes.
Universal Express Now creates another option, but costs can pile up quickly there, too. If someone purchased multiple lower-priced single-attraction passes throughout the day, they could still end up paying around $240 in extra charges.
For families already paying for travel, hotels, and meals, that can become difficult to justify.

Standby Guests Could Feel The Impact
Some fans also worry about what increased Express usage could do to standby waits.
Whenever Express riders enter attractions, operations teams usually prioritize them over standard queues. That often slows standby lines in the process.
Universal guests already experienced this concern at Islands of Adventure after Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure joined Express Pass access. Some visitors felt that standby waits became even more difficult afterward.
Epic Universe may now face similar complaints if enough guests begin purchasing priority ride access throughout the day.
