Disney’s Summer Plans Just Changed—Here’s What Will Be Closed Before Your Vacation

Rides and Locations to Close Doors

Summer has always been synonymous with Disneyland. Families spend months planning vacations around school breaks, longtime Annual Passholders squeeze in spontaneous visits, and out-of-state guests finally cross the Happiest Place on Earth off their bucket lists after months—sometimes years—of anticipation.

But veteran Disney fans know something that first-time visitors often don't: summer magic frequently comes with summer maintenance. Behind the music on Main Street, the fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the packed parade routes, Disneyland is constantly preparing for what's next, even if that means temporarily taking away some of its most beloved experiences.

That's exactly what's unfolding once again. While the resort remains packed with seasonal entertainment and anniversary offerings, a growing list of attractions and dining locations is quietly disappearing from the schedule throughout July and August. For some guests, these closures may barely register. For others, they could completely reshape an already-planned vacation.

Disney Is Quietly Reshaping the Summer Experience

Disneyland has officially released its latest refurbishment schedule, and the timing couldn't be more important for anyone visiting over the next several weeks.

Beginning July 6, several locations throughout the resort will temporarily close for refurbishment or seasonal preparations.

Guests hoping to grab a snack in Cars Land will notice nearly every location inside the iconic Cozy Cone Motel rotating through short closures.

According to Disneyland's schedule:

  • Cozy Cone Motel 2 – Ice Cream Cones closes July 6–7.
  • Cozy Cone Motel 5 – Popcone closes July 6–7.
  • Cozy Cone Motel 3 – Chili Cone Queso closes July 8–10.
  • Cozy Cone Motel 1 – Churros closes July 9–10.
  • Cozy Cone Motel 4 – Frozen Cone-coctions closes July 9–10.

While each closure is relatively brief, fans who specifically seek out these signature Cars Land snacks could find their favorites temporarily unavailable during their visit.

Some Classic Disneyland Favorites Are Going Dark

The dining updates are only part of the story.

Several longtime Disneyland attractions will also disappear from operation throughout the summer, including rides that many guests consider essential experiences.

The beloved King Arthur Carrousel is scheduled to close from July 6 through July 16 as refurbishment work takes place in Fantasyland.

Meanwhile, the Frontierland Shootin' Exposition will close beginning July 6, with Disney not yet announcing when the interactive attraction will return.

Then comes one of Disneyland's mountain icons.

Matterhorn Bobsleds is scheduled to close from July 20 through July 23, creating a brief—but potentially disappointing—window for guests hoping to experience one of Walt Disney's most historic thrill rides.

For longtime Disneyland fans, these aren't just attractions—they're traditions. Missing one favorite ride can subtly change the rhythm of an entire park day, especially when every hour of a vacation has been carefully planned.

August Brings One of Disneyland's Most Anticipated Transformations

Perhaps the biggest closure arrives just before Halloween season begins.

Haunted Mansion will close from August 8 through August 20 as Disneyland prepares the attraction for its annual seasonal overlay inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas.

For many guests, this refurbishment represents both excitement and disappointment.

Visitors hoping to experience the attraction in its classic form have a narrowing window before it disappears behind construction walls. Others eagerly await the return of the holiday version, which has become one of Disneyland's most celebrated seasonal traditions.

It's a reminder that Disneyland rarely stands still. Even some of its most iconic attractions routinely transform to keep longtime fans returning year after year.

Another classic piece of park history will also temporarily disappear.

Planning Ahead Could Make All the Difference

At first glance, none of these closures may seem overwhelming on their own.

But together, they create a noticeably different Disneyland experience depending on exactly when guests visit this summer.

A family traveling during early July could encounter Fantasyland refurbishments alongside multiple Cars Land dining closures. Guests arriving later in July may miss Matterhorn Bobsleds, while August visitors could find themselves without Haunted Mansion or Main Street Cinema.

That's why experienced Disneyland visitors often monitor refurbishment calendars just as closely as entertainment schedules.

Disneyland Never Stops Evolving—Even During Peak Season

One of Disneyland's greatest strengths has always been its willingness to constantly refresh itself, even when tens of thousands of guests are walking through its gates each day.

These temporary closures may frustrate some visitors, particularly those making once-in-a-lifetime trips, but they're also part of what keeps the resort feeling alive decades after opening.

As Halloween preparations begin, refurbishment projects continue, and seasonal offerings rotate into place, Disneyland is quietly laying the groundwork for the experiences guests will enjoy later this year. For travelers heading to the resort in July or August, the lesson is simple: a little planning could make the difference between checking every must-do attraction off your list—or discovering your favorite ride is waiting behind a refurbishment wall.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
