Construction walls went up inside Crystal Arts at Disney Springs this week, and what is behind them has the Disney community paying close attention.
A Studio for Silhouettes is officially coming to the Arribas Brothers location in the Marketplace, and based on what little has been confirmed so far, this does not appear to be a simple refresh of what is already there. Something new is being built, the details are deliberately vague, and that combination alone is enough to make it one of the more interesting Disney Springs developments in recent memory.
What Is Already Happening at Crystal Arts
Before getting into what is coming, it is worth understanding what Crystal Arts by Arribas Brothers already is, because a lot of guests genuinely do not know the full scope of what this store offers.
The shop traces its history back to a Fantasyland location that opened in 1967, making it one of the longest-running retail concepts in the Disney Parks ecosystem. The current Disney Springs location already offers silhouette portraits as part of a broader personalization menu that includes custom engraving, laser etching, and handcrafted crystal giftware. Guests can currently have silhouettes applied to crystal drinkware, frames, laser cubes, photo albums, stemware, and more, all produced onsite by artisans.
Daily glassblowing demonstrations run inside the store as well, giving the whole space a handcrafted, old-world feel that stands out in a shopping district that otherwise skews modern. It is a genuinely unique retail experience, and the silhouette element has been quietly available there for guests who knew to ask about it.
The keyword there is quietly. Most guests have no idea this service exists at Disney Springs right now.
So What Exactly Is Being Added To Disney Springs
That is the question, and the honest answer is that Disney and Arribas Brothers are not giving much away yet.
What has been confirmed is that a dedicated Studio for Silhouettes space is being constructed inside Crystal Arts, with construction walls already in place and Arribas Brothers signage telling guests that exciting additions are coming soon. A cast member at the location described the new area as including an interactive wish builder spot with cool lights and other new features.
That description is interesting for a few reasons. The traditional silhouette portrait experience at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland is intentionally low tech. An artist, a pair of scissors, black paper, and about ninety seconds of focused cutting produce a finished portrait that families hold onto for decades. It is charming precisely because of its simplicity.
The language being used to describe this new Studio for Silhouettes space does not sound simple. Interactive wish builder and cool lights point toward something more layered, possibly more technology-driven, and potentially quite different from the classic cart experience park guests are familiar with. Whether the hand-cut portrait tradition is part of what this new space will offer, whether it gets a modern upgrade, or whether this is an entirely new kind of silhouette experience is something nobody outside of Disney can answer right now.
Why the Location Matters
Crystal Arts sits in the Marketplace near World of Disney, which is about as high traffic as Disney Springs gets. Every guest who passes through that corner of the shopping district walks right by it, and a dedicated Studio for Silhouettes with its own branded space and new interactive features is going to be significantly harder to miss than a personalization service tucked inside a crystal shop.
This is a classic Disney move. Take something beloved, give it a dedicated home, add something unexpected, and let the curiosity do the rest.
